'Applicable to all': BCB targets journalists, imposes sudden restrictions after T20 World Cup snub
NEW DELHI: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced new restrictions for journalists entering the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka amid the ongoing controversy over Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup in India.
The decision comes as part of tighter security measures around the stadium and its surrounding areas.
The BCB released an official statement on Saturday and informed media representatives about the updated rules. The board clarified that the new guidelines are effective immediately and will apply to everyone entering the stadium complex, including journalists.
The BCB said, "As part of the ongoing security enhancement measures at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) and its surrounding premises, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wishes to advise that revised entry regulations are being introduced, which will be effective from now on."
The statement further added, "These measures will be applicable to all persons, including the media representatives, entering the stadium complex."
According to the revised rules, media personnel must follow strict entry guidelines. Gate 1 has been designated as the only entry point for journalists. Access will be allowed only on specific occasions such as match days, official press conferences, events organised by the BCB, or selected training sessions that are communicated in advance.
The BCB also requested cooperation from everyone involved, and it emphasised that these measures are necessary to ensure safety and proper management at the venue.
The board said, "The Bangladesh Cricket Board sincerely seeks the understanding and cooperation of all concerned to ensure the smooth implementation of these measures in the broader interest of safety, security and orderly operations at the venue and the BCB offices."
This development comes shortly after the International Cricket Council replaced Bangladesh with Scotland for the upcoming T20 Men’s World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to begin on February 7.
