'From a small-town girl to wearing India's jersey with pride': India batter Veda Krishnamurthy announces retirement
India batter Veda Krishnamurthy has announced her retirement from international cricket, bringing the curtains down on a career that spanned over a decade. The 32-year-old, however, indicated she is not walking away from the sport entirely and will continue to be associated in another capacity.
In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Krishnamurthy wrote, "From a small-town girl with big dreams to wearing the India jersey with pride. Grateful for everything cricket gave me — the lessons, the people, the memories. It's time to say goodbye to playing, but not to the game. Always for India. Always for the team."

Krishnamurthy represented India in 48 ODIs and 76 T20 Internationals, scoring 829 and 875 runs respectively. Known for her aggressive batting style and ability to finish games, she was a regular presence in the middle order during some of India's key campaigns.
Her last appearance in Indian colours came during a T20I against Australia at Melbourne in 2020. She played her final ODI in 2018.
In domestic cricket, she was last seen in action for the Gujarat Giants during the 2023 edition of the Women's Premier League, turning out against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Beyond the field, Krishnamurthy’s journey has also been marked by personal tragedy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she lost her mother, Cheluvamaba Devi, and her sister, Vatsala Shivakumar, within a short span. Her resilience through that difficult period made her a symbol of strength within the cricket community.
Married to former Karnataka cricketer Arjun Hoysala, Krishnamurthy now transitions into the next phase of her journey, and will remain rooted in the game, even if not with bat in hand.
