MCA to hold first under-19 tournament since pandemic

The Mumbai Cricket Association on Wednesday announced on its website that it will hold the Under-19 KC Mahindra Shield Selection tournament, from October 19 to November 3. With local and junior cricket scene badly hit due to covid, this is the first Under-19 tournament that the MCA will stage in the last 18 months.

Musheer Khan (Vijay Merchant XI), Ayushg Jethwa (Vijay Manjrekar XI), Angriksh Raghuvanshi (Dattu Phadkar XI) and Aditya Pawar (Khandu Rangnekar XI) will lead the four teams involved in the tournament, which will be played in the traditional three-day format and will serve as the selection tournament to pick the Mumbai team for the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy, starting from November 14.

Mumbai were recently knocked out of the Under-19 One-Day tournament in Ahmedabad in the league stage despite winning three of their five matches. Much to the team’s bad luck, its first match against Goa was washed out, which left them sharing two points with Goa, whom they were favoured to beat.
