Oshada Fernando recalled for Sri Lanka's series against New Zealand

Oshada Fernando returns to Sri Lanka's squad for their two-Test series against New Zealand, replacing Nishan Madushka after strong performances for Sri Lanka 'A'. Wicketkeeper-batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama also joins the team, replacing bowlers Kasun Rajitha and Nisala Tharaka. The first match starts on Wednesday in Galle as part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle.

NEW DELHI: Oshada Fernando, a top-order batsman, was summoned back to Sri Lanka's 16-man team named on Monday for their two-Test series against New Zealand. Nishan Madushka was left off of the squad.
Fernando last played a Test against New Zealand in March 2023, but he has made a strong comeback after scoring 122 and 80 this month while playing for the Sri Lanka 'A' side against their South African opponents.

In Sri Lanka's 1-2 Test series loss in England, opener Madushka struggled, scoring just 24 runs in four innings, as per Reuters.
Sri Lanka introduced wicketkeeper-batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama in place of bowlers Kasun Rajitha and Nisala Tharaka.
In two games in Galle, Dhananjaya De Silva's team will play New Zealand as part of the International Cricket Council's World Test Championship cycle.
On Wednesday, the first match will begin. It will last six days with a day off in between.
