RCB vs SRH Highlights, IPL 2025: RCB crumble for 189 as top-two hopes take massive hit vs SRH

RCB vs SRH Live Score, IPL 2025: Already assured of a playoff berth, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will now focus on securing a top-two finish in the league stage for the first time since 2016, when they finished as runners-up. RCB take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in their Indian Premier League clash in Jaipur on Friday.

Currently second on the points table with 17 points from 12 games, back-to-back wins in their remaining fixtures could seal a top-two finish — a milestone they haven’t achieved in nine years.

Notably, Friday's game was initially scheduled as a home match for RCB, but had to be shifted due to the onset of the monsoon.

Before the tournament was disrupted by the India-Pakistan military conflict, RCB were in scorching form, riding a four-match winning streak. However, that momentum hit a roadblock after a 20-day hiatus when their return fixture ended in a washout. It remains to be seen whether the team can rediscover its rhythm with the playoffs looming.

RCB have enjoyed one of their most consistent IPL campaigns in recent memory, spearheaded by the ever-dependable Virat Kohli. The veteran batter has been in sublime touch, scoring seven fifties in 11 innings and holding the top order together with his trademark poise.

Captain Rajat Patidar, along with Tim David and Romario Shepherd, have provided valuable firepower down the order. However, Patidar's form dipped before the break — after averaging 37.2 in his first five matches, he managed just 53 runs in the next five games at a mere 10.6 average.

A finger injury during the home clash against CSK had forced Patidar to wear a splint, but he has since resumed batting comfortably in the nets — a positive sign for RCB going into the crucial phase.

In the bowling department, the spin duo of Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma has delivered consistently, while Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal have taken charge of the tough overs. Hazlewood, however, will miss the upcoming game as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury.

On the upside, most of RCB’s overseas players are available for this game and the rest of the tournament.

As for their opponents, Sunrisers Hyderabad — runners-up last season — are coming off a six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants and will look to end a disappointing campaign on a high.

Despite occasional flashes of brilliance from explosive openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, SRH’s inconsistent run has seen them slip to eighth on the table. Their bowling attack, led by skipper Pat Cummins and India pacer Mohammad Shami, has struggled to impose itself collectively in pressure situations.

Teams:

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: Phil Salt, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar (c), Mayank Agarwal, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Tim David, Krunal Pandya, Romario Shepherd, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suyash Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, Yash Dayal, Rasikh Dar Salam, Manoj Bhandage, Jacob Bethell, Swapnil Singh, Liam Livingstone, Nuwan Thushara, Lungi Ngidi, Mohit Rathee, Swastik Chikara, Abhinandan Singh.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Pat Cummins (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Atharva Taide, Abhinav Manohar, Aniket Verma, Sachin Baby, Smaran Ravichandran, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Travis Head, Harshal Patel, Kamindu Mendis, Wiaan Mulder, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Shami, Rahul Chahar, Simarjeet Singh, Zeeshan Ansari, Jaydev Unadkat, Eshan Malinga.

Yash Dayal to Abhishek Sharma, Ooo...streaky! Yash Dayal starts with a hard-length delivery, on off, shaping in. Abhishek Sharma stays back and looks to push it away, but gets an inside edge just past the leg stump and towards backward square leg. A single is taken.

Out walks the destructive opening pair for SRH, fondly known as 'Travishek', as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma walk to the crease. Yash Dayal to open the attack for RCB. RCB vs SRH Live: Top-two hopes on the line for RCB
With just two games left for Bengaluru in the league stage, winning both of their remaining games will ensure a comfortable top-two finish. However, losing to SRH tonight will complicate things for the Challengers. Jitesh Sharma's decision to bowl first at the Ekana comes from his concern that his side aren't really familiar with the pitch. RCB have 17 points from 12 games and sit in second spot prior to the start of the game. This is the first time the two sides are meeting in the IPL this season.
19:06 (IST) May 23

Jitesh Sharma, captaining Royal Challengers Bengaluru for tonight's game, acknowledges that it's his first time leading RCB. However, he recalls previously captaining Punjab Kings, coincidentally against the Sunrisers. He describes the surface as unfamiliar to the team, making the decision to bowl first a strategic one. Sharma expresses confidence in the squad’s progress, emphasizing their goal to finish among the top two. He assures that the team remains focused, refusing to be complacent, and is determined to win every match and ultimately the title. Concludes by informing that Rajat Patidar will come in as the Impact Sub, and Mayank Agarwal comes in for the injured Devdutt Padikkal.

The game means nothing to Sunrisers Hyderabad who are eighth and will remain eighth even if they win. For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, though, this game is pivotal. A win tonight and they will go top of the standings and keep their aim of finishing in the top-two alive. That matters because the team that does finish in the top two places will play two matches to try and qualify for the final.

IPL Live Score: Manoj Tiwary on RCB season
Former India batter Manoj Tiwary expects Virat Kohli and RCB to end their long wait for the maiden IPL title. “With Gujarat Titans losing, RCB now have a very good chance to finish in the top two. It looks like the entire universe is working to help RCB end the trophy drought and win the IPL. Virat Kohli deserves this, so many years have gone by. RCB deserves the trophy. With GT losing against Lucknow Super Giants, RCB can finish in the top two. The entire RCB team deserves to win the trophy," he told Cricbuzz.

RCB vs SRH Live Score: Hazlewood likely to return for playoffs
Josh Hazlewood is likely to rejoin Royal Challengers Bengaluru camp ahead of the IPL playoffs, having recovered from a shoulder niggle.

The fast bowler last featured in the IPL on April 27 and has since missed two games. He had left for home during the one-week break caused by the India-Pakistan conflict.

Since then, the 34-year-old has been training in Brisbane as part of Australia's preparations ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

He is currently being monitored by Cricket Australia's medical team, with the RCB management maintaining close communication.

"Our medical team and their medical teams have been liaising on what that detail looks like, and he's just taking it day by day," RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat had said last week.

News agency PTI reports that that Hazlewood is progressing well and is on track to link up with the squad ahead of the knockout stage, which begins on May 29.

RCB vs SRH Live Score: Why is this match taking place in Lucknow?
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will play their league stage game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. RCB have already qualified for the playoffs, while SRH are not in reckoning.

RCB will play their designated home match, usually staged at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in Lucknow. The reason behind it is the peristent rainfall in Bengaluru. The last fixture was washed off as well and the weather prediction doesn't help.

RCB vs SRH Live Score: Rajat Patidar on team's bowling effort
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Rajat Patidar highlighted the importance of experienced bowlers in T20 cricket, emphasising their ability to win matches and championships. He believes the current RCB's bowling unit is the team's strongest across 18 seasons of the Indian Premier League.

"In T20 games, having good, experienced bowlers who understand how to bowl in specific situations helps a lot. Your bowling group can win you matches -- and even the title. I think this year, we prepared well and picked players based on what we needed in specific areas. It's worked out well, and I believe this has been our best bowling unit so far," Rajat Patidar said on Friday while speaking on JioHotstar.

Patidar praised RCB's well-settled batting line-up, highlighting how role clarity and consistent performances have boosted team confidence:

"You gain confidence when you're part of a batting group with quality players from top to bottom, all performing well. They're experts in their respective slots, so there are no doubts. That gives you confidence as a captain. The way we're playing this year, no one questions our approach. Everyone knows their role and is executing it well. That's a very positive sign," he added.

RCB vs SRH: Pitch Report

The surface at Ekana Stadium promises to be a good one for batting, especially under lights. There’s a slight sheen on the pitch, suggesting early skid with the new ball, aiding strokeplay. Ground dimensions vary — 60m and 69m square, with a 75m straight boundary. Chasing has been the preferred strategy here, with teams enjoying more success batting second. Only one 200+ total has been recorded at this venue this season, which resulted in a win. With consistent bounce and minimal wear expected, this pitch is likely to favour batters throughout the 40 overs of play.
