RR vs RCB highlights, IPL 2026: Dhruv Jurel, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi power Rajasthan Royals to 6-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati

RR vs RCB highlights, IPL 2026: Blistering half-centuries from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel powered Rajasthan Royals to a commanding six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a high-scoring IPL 2026 clash at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Friday.

Batting first after being asked to take strike, RCB posted a strong 201 for 8 in 20 overs, riding on a fine captain’s knock from Rajat Patidar, who struck a fluent 63 off 40 balls with four boundaries and as many sixes. He held the innings together after early wickets, with useful contributions coming from Virat Kohli (32 off 16), Romario Shepherd (22 off 11) and Venkatesh Iyer (29* off 15), ensuring RCB crossed the 200-mark. However, RCB kept losing wickets at regular intervals, preventing them from fully capitalising in the death overs.

In reply, Rajasthan Royals came out with intent and aggression. The chase was blown wide open by Sooryavanshi, who produced a breathtaking 78 off just 26 balls, smashing eight fours and seven sixes. His assault left the RCB attack helpless as he tore into both pace and spin, setting the tone for a dominant chase.

After the early dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal (13), Sooryavanshi and Jurel stitched a match-defining 108-run stand off just 37 balls for the second wicket. Even the introduction of spin brought little relief as Krunal Pandya briefly fought back with two quick wickets, removing Sooryavanshi and Shimron Hetmyer in succession.

However, the Royals remained unfazed. Jurel anchored the chase beautifully, combining composure with clean hitting to remain unbeaten on 81 off 43 balls. He then found strong support from Ravindra Jadeja (24*), with the pair adding 68 runs to finish the game with two overs to spare.

For RCB, Josh Hazlewood (2/44), Krunal Pandya (2/30) and Brijesh Sharma (2/37) were among the wickets, but they lacked control in the powerplay where Sooryavanshi’s assault had already sealed the game’s momentum.

Rajasthan Royals’ emphatic chase of 202 underlined their batting depth and fearless approach, while RCB were left to reflect on missed opportunities with the ball despite a strong first-innings total

Unfortunately, Duffy misses out in this game. Josh in the place of Duffy. Duffy also bowled brilliantly in the last game. But everyone knows Josh is an experienced player, specialist. But I think his presence will definitely put us in a good frame of mind, I think.

We're going to be bowling. It was supposed to be a dry wicket, but it has been raining for the last couple of days and rained a bit today as well. So there's going to be a little moisture. We're trying to extract it, but seems like a really good wicket. Feels great. I think we've been very clinical before the start of the tournament.

My message to the team was that we want to be a really pure team that plays really strategic cricket, really smart cricket. So hopefully we keep on assessing and adapting as we have been in the first three games and hopefully come up with really good points. Tushar takes a rest and Brijesh comes in. I think it's a fresh start. I told them when we won against Mumbai, as soon as the sun came up, it was past. And we need to forget about that.

That's what Sanga said before we left the hotel as well. All the three games, that's in the past. Today we've got to perform. If we don't, we lose two points and we don't want to do that. I mean, as long as they keep on going, I'm happy. I'm happy with this batting. I'm happy with this whole. So yeah, hopefully they keep on going.

RR vs RCB Live Score: Pitch report by Murali Kartik and Michael Clarke
It's been a happy hunting ground for Rajasthan Royals this year. Match number 16 at Guwahati at the ACA Stadium, and they've won two out of two. Tonight is against the big team, RCB. There's going to be a lot of support, but let me lay out the markers. This is the very same surface, pitch number 5, which was used in that game against MI which RR defended. So the markers are, it is pretty equidistant.

I've got 65 and 66 as dimensions, meters to my right and left. A hit down the ground is 75, pretty equidistant once again, 72, 73. And I have to say, in the last couple of years, teams have been able to defend over here. And when you look at the overall score too, seven games, marginally ahead when it comes to team defending. So, more on that. Michael Clarke was there the other night on the very same surface. Michael, what do you think? Karthik, it looks exactly the same, to be honest. It looked like an absolute beauty of a wicket if you're a batsman. Again, you can come down, I think like the other night, it looked a little bit dry like you can see under the grass. But because it's so hard and with no moisture at all, it played beautifully. It was so consistent, good pace and bounce.

Again, I think the key is going to be batting with that in that powerplay, with that brand new ball. I think you've got to look to go hard through the powerplay. For the bowlers, I think change of pace is your only hope. But wickets up front, I think you're going to need wickets. This looks like an absolute batting paradise. As a skipper, any preference? Batting first, I don't think there's any rain in the air at the moment.

Look, honestly, I think on this surface, on this ground, we've seen it, doesn't matter too much. It's pretty even batting first or batting second. No dew the other night, obviously because of rain. There's no forecast for rain as well. So I think it's pretty consistent for both. I think as a captain, if you win the toss, and as I said, the sample size is small, you don't mind batting first. That's my opinion.

Yeah, definitely. I think, the way we set up our team, we've got, Kunal coming in at 9, Sheppy at 8. So it's a ridiculous amount of power and I think, you're going to see more and more teams set up like that. You know, Romario's not even had a chance to go out there and swing the bat and we made 250 last game. So hopefully that's an exciting start. (happy being here or does he have one eye back in England?) I'm definitely happy being here. Looking back on last year and the experience and the knowledge I gained from being over here and being a part of this competition. And I think based on the three weeks I've had so far, I've definitely learned a lot.

So yeah, I've got one eye on the English season, obviously, but just waiting here and trying to get better as much as possible before I get back there. (is he itching to get a chance?) Yeah, definitely. I'm hitting the ball well and, the last time I batted, I think it went pretty well. So yeah, I'm just waiting and when the opportunity does come, I'll be looking to take it with both hands. (how do you keep your form going?) Yeah, I think a lot of it is, the way you think about a net session.

You kind of have to picture where the field would be for you, which bowlers are bowling. Try and emulate as much game as you can or game realness as you can. But, it's a tough thing to do. I think the main thing that I try and do is continue to keep my thinking as similar to it would be in a game, so that when I do go into the game, it's not a massive shift in intensity. And that has seemed to help me in good stead so far in coming in and out of teams.

So hopefully that's what I'll look to do. (happy being a batter with the scores so high?) No, I love bowling. You know, I look at it the other way, to be honest. With the par score being so high, if you do bowl, and take two wickets for even 20 runs in two overs, you've done better than everyone else. So, I think you can look at it either way, but I try and look at it on the positive side.

RR vs RCB Live Score: Donovan Ferreira, Rajasthan Royals
Well, obviously our opening pair has been on fire, but I think we've just been consistent with the messaging that we've been relaying, assessing conditions. It doesn't look like that because they've just been going from ball one. But I think we're just taking each game as it comes, and each game is a new game. (on the opening pair) Yeah, I know, it's extraordinary. I mean, looking at Vaibhav and Jaiswal, I think it takes a bit of pressure off Jaiswal as well, or Vaibhav just playing from ball one. But, they're both doing a job. They're both taking the game on, and they're putting the team first, which is really great.

So hopefully they can continue the form for the rest of the tournament. (on Sooryavanshi) I mean, it's pretty chilled, I think. You know, he's just another player. I think we're treating him like that as well. We're not really babysitting him or anything. So, yeah, I think we're just really enjoying the time as a team. We're bonding and getting to know each other. And I think that's important for such a long tournament. (defined roles for the batters?) I mean, it's pretty simple. I think it's pretty good that we haven't had to bat much down the order, but we've got Hetty at five and myself at six.

You know, Jadu as well over there at seven. So we're just all flexible in the 5-6-7 roles, which is really important for the team. Hopefully if we get a chance to do it, we can take it and impact in a positive way for the team. (on Archer and Burger) Yeah, I'm grateful that I don't have to face them. So, yeah, I'm glad that they're in our team. (on facing RCB) I think obviously with each team, you need to assess their set of players. This is a bit of a different ground. The ground's bigger. The wicket's not as good, I guess, as the Chinnaswamy.

So they'll have to adapt. But for us, it's really being prominent on how we want to play and really focus on our execution. Them being their team is their team. We just focus on our game and assess the conditions today. Each game, like I say, is a new game. Wicket could be playing a bit differently. So whoever's going to assess the conditions the quickest will come out on top.

RR vs RCB Live Score: Steyn reveals RCB’s top five all-time bowlers
Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn has revealed his top five Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bowlers of all time in the Indian Premier League (IPL), placing leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal at the top of the list.

Steyn, known for his sharp insights on the game, ranked former India captain Anil Kumble at No.5, praising the legendary spinner’s effectiveness at the batting-friendly M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Kumble was the captain of RCB from 2009 to 2010. He played 51 matches for the team and took 51 wickets at an average of 24.58.

"At No.5, I’ve got Anil Kumble. Just as a spinner, bowling a lot at Chinnaswamy to do as well as he has, he makes my top five," Steyn told ESPNcricinfo.

At No.4, Steyn picked Harshal Patel for his wicket-taking ability and impact in matches. Patel is the second-highest wicket-taker for RCB in IPL history with 99 wickets to his name from just 80 matches. This also includes one five-wicket and two four-wicket hauls.

“Harshal Patel, the numbers tell me he’s a wicket-taker. His economy rate is really good, and his influence in games, in terms of helping RCB win, is pretty big too,” he added.

Australian left-arm quick Mitchell Starc was slotted at No.3, with Steyn lauding his ability to pick wickets consistently while maintaining an impressive economy rate. Starc played only 27 matches for RCB and took 34 wickets.

“You can’t go very far without leaving this man out. Mitchell Starc — such a wicket-taker, fantastic economy, and an absolute gun when it comes to picking wickets,” he said.

At No.2, Steyn chose Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood, underlining his remarkable strike rate. Hazlewood is currently with the RCB squad in IPL 2026. He has picked 45 wickets in just 27 matches for the franchise.

“Josh Hazlewood is an incredible bowler. A strike rate of 13 means basically every two overs he’s taking a wicket. That’s pretty magical,” Steyn noted.

Topping the list was Chahal, RCB’s leading wicket-taker in IPL history, with Steyn emphasising his consistency and match-winning ability. Chahal took 139 wickets in 113 matches for RCB at an impressive average of 22.03.

“At No.1, it’s Yuzi Chahal. He strikes every 17 balls, his economy is around 7.6, and he’s taken the most wickets — he’s my No.1,” Steyn said.

Meanwhile, RCB has not lost any match in the IPL 2026. They will face the Rajasthan Royals at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Friday.

Former RCB skipper Virat Kohli is closing in on a major IPL milestone, needing just three more sixes to reach 300 in his career. Achieving this feat will place him among elite hitters like Chris Gayle and Rohit Sharma. Kohli has been in strong form recently, making it likely that he will reach the landmark soon.

With an upcoming match against Rajasthan Royals, a team he has historically performed well against, expectations are high that he could achieve this milestone in the very next game.

RR vs RCB Live Score: 'I used to play cricket in a small opening in my yard'
RCB all-rounder Romario Shepherd reflected on his journey from growing up in Linden, Guyana, to representing one of the biggest franchises in the IPL, while also speaking about his early cricketing days, inspiration from Dwayne Bravo, his breakthrough in white-ball cricket, and life inside the RCB dressing room.

Named after football legend Romario, Shepherd recalled his earliest memories of cricket when he had to improvise with whatever was available, according to a press release from the RCB.

"I used to play cricket in a small opening in my yard. Sometimes we made the ball with wood or used coconut branches to make a bat," he recalled. "Whenever the ball hit your shin, there were no pads because we were barefoot, so you had to defend your foot."

His journey into organised cricket began during his school years. Notably, he was not always the destructive six-hitter he is known as today.

"In the first game I played, I scored 129 and batted through the 40 overs, with no sixes. At that time, I was not a big hitter. All I knew was to find the gaps."

As Shepherd progressed through age-group cricket, his role gradually evolved into that of a multi-dimensional player inspired by one of West Indies' modern greats.

"Whenever you listened to the radio, there was always one name you heard doing everything, batting, bowling and fielding, and that was Dwayne Bravo," Shepherd said. "I wanted to be like that guy."

His breakthrough in white-ball cricket came in 2018 during the Caribbean Premier League, where his performances quickly began drawing attention.

"2018 is when people started taking my white-ball cricket seriously," Shepherd said. "I started bowling a lot of yorkers and hitting the ball, and commentators like Ian Bishop were saying this kid has something about him."

One of the moments that stood out that season came when he faced his childhood inspiration.

"The first ball I faced was from Dwayne Bravo and I hit it for six ways back in the crowd," Shepherd said. "That was big for me because he was someone I looked up to."

Shepherd's journey eventually brought him to the IPL and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

"When I was watching cricket growing up, RCB was always one of the teams West Indians supported because Chris Gayle was on that team," Shepherd said.

Reflecting on his time with the franchise, Shepherd spoke about the strong environment within the dressing room.

"Everyone knows TD (Tim David) is my guy. Salt, Bethell, even VK, I did not know he was this funny," Shepherd said with a smile. "You see Virat Kohli on the cricket field, and he is so intense, but off the field, he is actually a very funny guy."

He also highlighted the influence of senior players and the positive atmosphere within the squad.

"These guys make me happy, especially when you are away from home for so long," Shepherd said. "It is an unbelievable group of guys, both on and off the cricket field. RCB is blessed to have senior players mixed with younger players in one dressing room."

For Shepherd, representing RCB also comes with a unique global connection with fans.

"RCB gave me a chance and the opportunity to go out there and represent one of the biggest franchises in the IPL," he said. "It changes the way people follow you."

"Even when I am playing for West Indies in other parts of the world, people are still chanting 'RCB, RCB'," Shepherd added. "When you walk out to represent RCB, you realise it is more than just a franchise. It feels like a family."

RR vs RCB Live Score: When and where to watch
Two in-form teams - Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru - will square off in the 16th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium (ACA Stadium) in Guwahati on Friday, with one team poised to apply brakes on the other team’s winning streak.

Rajasthan Royals have surged to the top of the standings after winning all three of their matches so far, with victories over Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Mumbai Indians. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru head into the contest on the back of consecutive wins against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai.

Both sides boast formidable batting units, though Rajasthan appear slightly more settled with the ball under the leadership of Riyan Parag. The pace attacks on either side are equally threatening with the new ball. Jacob Duffy and Bhuvneshwar Kumar spearhead Bengaluru’s attack, while Jofra Archer partners with Nandre Burger at the top for Rajasthan.

A key battle will be how Bengaluru handle Rajasthan’s aggressive opening combination of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who have been in destructive form this season. In response, the defending champions will rely on Virat Kohli and Phil Salt to provide a steady start, paving the way for a late onslaught from Tim David, who made a significant impact in the previous outing against Chennai.

RR vs RCB Live Score: Royal Challengers Bengaluru can defend their title
Former India cricketer Anjum Chopra expressed strong confidence that Royal Challengers Bengaluru are capable of defending their Indian Premier League (IPL) title.

Drawing parallels with successful franchises like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, she emphasised that consistency is key to making the playoffs. RCB had clinched their maiden IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in the 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, ending an 18-year wait for the trophy.

Chopra added that teams which build momentum early and sustain form can go all the way, noting that a new champion could emerge this season, while RCB also remain strong contenders to defend their crown.

Speaking to ANI, Anjum Chopra said, "Yes, they can definitely do it. Mumbai has done it, Chennai has done it, RCB can also do it, and again, the team that consistently plays well will reach the playoffs. All the teams reaching the playoffs start from the blocks, exactly where they left off, so they can definitely do it, there can become a new champion, and RCB can also defend their IPL title."

Chopra believes RCB look like the most well-organised side this season, carrying forward their strong momentum as defending champions. She added that they have not only picked up from where they left off last year but have appeared even more impressive and balanced in the current campaign.

"RCB is looking good, they are looking like the most organised team, because they are the defending champions, they started from where they left off last season. In fact, they are even looking better this season," she added.

RCB have won both their opening matches of IPL 2026 and currently sit third on the points table with four points and an impressive Net Run Rate (NRR) of +2.501.

Chopra also felt that Punjab Kings are in strong form, having reached the final last season and therefore knowing exactly how to build on that experience.

"Punjab is also looking very good. They also played the final last year, so they know where it ended, and from where to start again. They have also started well," she concluded.

PBKS have also begun their IPL 2026 campaign on a high, winning two of their three matches while one game ended in a draw. Punjab are currently placed second on the points table with five points.

RR vs RCB Live Score: RCB batting
Skipper Rajat Patidar and big-hitting Australian Tim David add solidity to the middle order.

However, it is RCB’s transformation with the ball that has stood out. Once considered their Achilles’ heel, the attack now looks far more balanced. Jacob Duffy has stepped up in the absence of Josh Hazlewood, delivering incisive spells, while Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma have effectively controlled the middle overs.

Meanwhile, the Royals have emerged as one of the most explosive batting units this season, driven by the opening pair of Jaiswal and teenage sensation Sooryavanshi.

The duo has consistently provided flying starts, blending clean hitting with fearless stroke play to put opposition attacks under early pressure.

Sooryavanshi, in particular, has grabbed attention with his audacious stroke-making, including a six off the very first ball he faced from Jasprit Bumrah in the previous game, underlining his fearless approach.

While the 15-year-old has dominated headlines, Jaiswal has quietly showcased his class, anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 77 against Mumbai Indians, combining composure with attacking flair.

Their bowling unit has also been impressive, executing plans with precision — whether hitting hard lengths or nailing yorkers at the death — making Rajasthan a well-rounded side.
