So, what’s next? The DLS-adjusted target is 306 for Pakistan. A mountain to climb in just 40 overs, even on a good day. Pakistan’s batting lineup will need something big from Muneeba Ali and Sidra Amin, while the experienced hands of Aliya Riaz and Fatima Sana must anchor. Can they pull off the impossible and chase down the Proteas’ fiery total to keep their hope alive in the tournament? Or will South Africa’s pace and precision wrap this up early? South Africa's Sune Luus is up for a quick chat with Alan Wilkins. On being asked about the approach, she shares that the coach said to go out and express themselves. Says this is a good opportunity for them to go out and win another game and go into the next game with positive momentum. On the partnership with Wolvaardt, Luus details that they both like batting together and says that they feed well off each other. Calls Wolvaardt a class player, full of energy. She further adds that the aim was to put up a dominant performance and a solid total on the board. Looking ahead, she adds that getting some overs with the ball before facing Australia would be ideal. Despite the strong total, Luus emphasizes the importance of not getting complacent, keeping things simple, and sticking to the basics in the defence.

But enter Nadine de Klerk, who joined Marizanne Kapp, and Pakistan’s hopes vanished quicker than the clouds did earlier. Kapp’s calm fifty was all class and composure, while Klerk brought chaos in its rawest form. She smashed 41 off just 16 balls - four sixes, three boundaries, and turned the last few overs into a nightmare for Pakistan. The final five overs went for 72 runs, as the Pakistani bowlers lost their lines and lengths, spraying wides and full tosses everywhere. Sadia Iqbal managed to pick three wickets, but she too wasn’t spared the punishment. The extras - 22 of them - tell you everything about Pakistan’s day in the field.

Sune Luus showed touch and timing, reaching her fifty before Nashra finally broke through, dismissing her for 61. But by then, the damage was done - the partnership worth 118 runs had set up the platform perfectly. Laura Wolvaardt, meanwhile, looked at her elegant best - cuts, drives, lofts - poetry in motion. She scored 90 off 82 balls, narrowly missing her century but leaving behind a trail of classy strokes. Nashra was Pakistan’s saviour again, removing both Luus and Wolvaardt, finishing with 3/45 in her 8 overs. For a brief moment, when South Africa slipped from 212/4 to 253/6, Pakistan had hope. Briefly.

Pakistani skipper Fatima Sana won the toss and chose to bowl first. Brave call or brave mistake? Time will tell. Early on, it looked good when Tazmin Brits was gone for a duck, courtesy of Fatima herself. But then, the heavens opened. Rain came, reduced the game to 40-overs-per-side, and when play resumed, so did the carnage.  Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus came out blazing, scoring 53 runs in the shortened 8-over Powerplay, treating every ball like a friendly delivery in the nets. The Pakistani bowlers lost control early, and from there, the tone of the innings was set - loud and clear.

BLAZED. THRASHED. BULLDOZED. All adjectives seem too small to describe the sheer destruction South Africa unleashed in this game. A rain-shortened game, shortened boundaries, and an extended assault - the Proteas have powered their way to 312/9 in just 40 overs. Wolvaardt, Luus, and Kapp led the charge before De Klerk turned beast mode on with a whirlwind cameo. Pakistan, on the other hand, looked flat after a promising start - fielding errors, missed lines and lengths, and lost rhythm. Nashra Sandhu was the only bright spot with her clever spin, but one bowler alone couldn’t stop the storm.

Iqbal dishes out a full delivery, keeping it stump-to-stump and getting a bit of a drift into the batter. Nonkululeko Mlaba tries to be adventurous and shapes to play the reverse sweep, but misses to connect. The ball beats the bat and smashes into the stumps behind her. Kapp takes off immediately, yet Shangase hesitates and is slow to respond for the single. Muneeba reacts quickly, releasing a sharp throw that crashes into the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Shangase is caught short. But it will be Kapp on strike for the next ball.

Sadia Iqbal to Nadine De Klerk, OUT! STRAIGHT UP AND GONE! That was in the air for an eternity. Fractionally fuller in length, sliding into the stumps. Nadine De Klerk transfers her weight onto her back foot and tries to heave it over mid-wicket, but gets a bit of a top edge, and the ball hangs up in the air and descends towards deep mid-wicket, where Natalia Pervaiz settles under it and takes it safely. A breathless cameo from De Klerk comes to an end, as she departs for 41 runs off just 16 balls.

Fatima Sana dives to her left front long on to catch it, but fails to hold on to it, and the ball gets parried behind her. She gets up and tries to stop it in the second attempt, but the ball trickles to the ropes for a boundary. 

Fatima Sana to Marizanne Kapp, SIX! Hit with ease and at will! The Proteas are off to a really strong finish. Full and again, a slot ball on the leg stump line. Marizanne Kapp clears the front leg and smokes it over wide long on for a cracking six. 25 runs from the penultimate over. 300 UP FOR SOUTH AFRICA!

In doing so, she loses her shape and balance, completely missing the inside edge. Nawaz is alert behind the stumps, as she collects and whips off the bails in a flash. The replays roll in and they paint a clear picture. Tryon’s back foot is just outside the popping crease, and nothing is behind it. The third umpire confirms it after checking several angles.
