Sri Lanka vs Oman Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: Sri Lanka crush Oman by 105 runs to go top of Group B

Sri Lanka vs Oman Live Score, T20 World Cup 2026: Sri Lanka delivered a statement performance to outclass Oman by 105 runs and move to the top of Group B in the T20 World Cup, thanks to a blistering batting show led by Pavan Rathnayake, Kusal Mendis and skipper Dasun Shanaka. Opting to bowl first backfired for Oman as Sri Lanka posted a daunting 225/5 — their second-highest total in tournament history and the highest score of this edition.

T20 World Cup: Schedule | Points Table

After a quiet start to the campaign, Rathnayake roared back to form with a stunning 60 from just 28 balls, reaching his maiden T20 World Cup fifty in only 24 deliveries. He combined effectively with Kusal Mendis, who played the senior partner’s role with a composed 61 off 45 balls, striking seven boundaries while rotating the strike smartly. Their 94-run partnership kept Sri Lanka well above the required tempo through the middle overs.

The real carnage arrived at the death as Shanaka, coming off a lean run of scores, exploded with a breathtaking 19-ball half-century — the fastest ever by a Sri Lankan in the T20 World Cup. Kamindu Mendis added the finishing touches with two late sixes as Sri Lanka plundered 65 runs in the final four overs.

Oman’s chase crumbled early when Chameera struck twice with the new ball, while Maheesh Theekshana’s miserly 2/11 choked any hopes of a recovery. A brief counterattack from Wasim Ali and a fighting fifty from veteran Mohammad Nadeem provided some resistance, but wickets kept falling in clusters. Oman eventually slumped to 120/9, unable to cope with the mounting scoreboard pressure.

With two wins in two matches, Sri Lanka now sit atop Group B, sending a strong message to rivals about their batting firepower and bowling discipline.

Welcome back for the run chase. The umpires and the players make their way out in the middle. Jatinder Singh and Aamir Kaleem will open up for Oman. Dushmantha Chameera will start the proceedings for Sri Lanka with the new ball. Let's go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

12:45 (IST) Feb 12

A tough day for Oman's bowlers - It was a forgettable outing for the Oman bowling unit, as they struggled with consistency and leaked runs throughout the innings. Barring Faisal Shah, every bowler conceded runs at an economy rate of 10 or over. Jiten Ramanandi picked 2 wickets, while Sufyan Mehmood and Jay Odedra grabbed one apiece. With a massive target on the board, Oman need a miracle to chase this down. Stay tuned for the second innings!

12:45 (IST) Feb 12

Fireworks from the middle order - The real acceleration came when Pavan Rathnayake joined Mendis in the middle. The pair was exceptional, stitching together a brilliant partnership of 94 runs off just 50 balls. Rathnayake was particularly destructive, smashing 60 off 28 balls before falling in the 14th over. Skipper Dasun Shanaka then took over the mantle, playing a fiery cameo of 50 from just 20 balls, the fastest T20I fifty by a Sri Lankan batter. Mendis chipped in with a valuable 61. A late cameo from Kamindu Mendis made sure the total sailed possibly well past the reach of Oman batters.

12:43 (IST) Feb 12

A massive score! Sri Lanka have finished their innings with a commanding total of 225 runs, the highest so far in this T20I World Cup, leaving Oman with a mountain to climb. Despite a shaky start where they lost Kamil Mishara early and saw Pathum Nissanka fall just before the Powerplay, they recovered beautifully. Kusal Mendis anchored the innings and punished any loose deliveries to keep the scoreboard ticking. They were at a solid 58/2 after the first six overs.

Jiten Ramanandi to Kamindu Mendis, OUT! KUSAL MENDIS IS RUN OUT! Both batters at the same end. Just like that, both set batters have been dismissed. On a short length, outside off, Kamindu Mendis went for the pull but miscued it towards long on. Actually, it was just past the bowler. Kamindu was happy with the single but then, the bowler fumbled while trying to pick it up. Kusal spotted that and charged back for the second. But Kamindu had his back turned. Kusal came within handshaking distance, before turning back. Too late. The bowler returned the throw to the keeper who took the bails off, with Kusal way short. Sri Lanka vs Oman Live Score, T20 World Cup 2026: Sri Lanka produced a commanding all-round display to crush Oman by 105 runs in their Group B clash of the T20 World Cup on Thursday, riding on fluent half-centuries from Pavan Rathnayake, Kusal Mendis and skipper Dasun Shanaka. The co-hosts piled up a formidable 225/5 after being put in to bat — their second-highest total in T20 World Cup history and the biggest score of the ongoing edition.

Rathnayake set the tone with a blazing 60 off 28 balls, smashing eight fours and a six, while Kusal anchored the innings with a composed 61 from 45 deliveries, registering his second successive fifty. The duo stitched together a brisk 94-run stand, keeping the scoring rate high through the middle overs. Shanaka then unleashed a stunning late assault, hammering a 19-ball fifty — the fastest by a Sri Lankan in the tournament — as Sri Lanka added 65 runs in the last four overs.

Oman’s chase never gained momentum after early strikes from Dushmantha Chameera, who removed skipper Jatinder Singh in the opening over. Maheesh Theekshana’s disciplined spell of 2/11 further tightened the grip, triggering a middle-order collapse that left Oman reeling.

Though veteran Mohammad Nadeem fought hard with a valiant fifty, Oman were eventually restricted to 120/9. The comprehensive win lifted Sri Lanka to the top of Group B with two victories from as many games, underlining their growing dominance in the tournament.
