After years of anticipation, the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct has revealed the highly-awaited Switch 2 alongside tons of new things. The live stream, which took place at 9 a.m. ET on Wednesday, April 2, delighted Nintendo fans, who were eagerly waiting for information about the next-generation console from the Japanese multinational video game company.
Essentially, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on June 5, 2025, and it is set to be a massive improvement on the Switch. The main thing unveiled at the Direct was the specifications of the Nintendo Switch 2. The new console is set to feature a 1080p 120Hz 7.9-inch LCD screen, and you will be able to use the Joy-Con controllers with mouse-like functions. It is going to have 256GB of storage, and you can also get a 4K output by using the dock.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $449.99 while getting it with the new Mario Kart World will set you off $499.99. Coming to the new “C” button, it is dedicated to a new Game Chat feature, which will let you talk to friends while playing the game. There will be no extra apps involved in the same.
Mario Kart World exclusively launches for Nintendo Switch 2
Mario Kart World will be the next release in the iconic Mario Kart franchise. It is going to be a day-one title on the Switch 2, and is set to feature a new open-world mode called “Free Roam.” The open-world mode will have atmospheric effects that will depend on the time of day and weather conditions. Besides the scenic open world, the Mario Kart World will also feature a new Knockout mode and the classic Grand Prix style mode.

Donkey Kong is finally getting a new game in the form of Donkey Kong Bananza, which will be a 3D platforming adventure. It will be made available on July 17, 2025. On the other hand, Kirby is set to receive a racer titled Kirby Air Riders. It will be a sequel to the initial Kirby Air Ride.
More Nintendo Switch 2 games announced
FromSoftware's new horror title The Duskbloods is launching exclusively for Switch 2 in 2026. Additionally, Koei Tecmo is teaming up with Nintendo for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. It will be acting as a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom. Another key game release is going to be Project 007, which is a new James Bond game that will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Games
Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games will be essentially enhanced ports of the Switch 1 games.
