Manchester United blew the Premier League title race wide open with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Arsenal on Sunday, inflicting the Gunners’ first home defeat of the season in a pulsating Emirates Stadium clash. The result tightened the race at the top as Aston Villa also kept the pressure on with a statement win at Newcastle.

United not only dented Arsenal’s title hopes but also surged into the top four, boosting their chances of Champions League football for the first time in three years.
Arsenal struck first when Lisandro Martinez inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, but the visitors responded swiftly. Bryan Mbeumo capitalised on a costly error by Martin Zubimendi to restore parity before half-time. Early in the second period, Patrick Dorgu produced a moment of brilliance, drilling home a stunning strike to put United ahead.
Despite their lofty league position, Arsenal again struggled to create from open play. Their salvation appeared to arrive through a familiar route when Mikel Merino forced in a corner on 84 minutes to level the score. But the joy was short-lived. Moments later, Cunha unleashed a fierce effort from outside the box that silenced the Emirates and delivered a crushing blow to Arsenal’s hopes of ending a 22-year wait for the league title.
“It’s a really painful one,” admitted Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. “But now it’s time to be very close to those players that have given us so much joy and support them.”
Carrick, meanwhile, hailed his side’s resilience. “To come here, go one down, come back, and still keep going – it was a huge moment for us,” he said.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa kept their unlikely title push alive with a 2-0 win at Newcastle, their first at St James’ Park in 21 years. Emiliano Buendia opened the scoring with a brilliant long-range strike before Ollie Watkins sealed it late on, lifting Unai Emery’s men to within four points of Arsenal and level with Manchester City.
Chelsea added to Crystal Palace’s woes with a 3-1 win at Selhurst Park, while Nottingham Forest boosted their survival hopes by beating Brentford 2-0 to move five points clear of the drop zone.
