Formula E veteran Sebastien Buemi wins 6 Hours of Imola; Nyck de Vries also on podium

Formula E driver Sebastien Buemi, who races for Envision Racing, had plenty to celebrate as he helped Toyota Gazoo Racing secure victory in the World Endurance Championship’s iconic 6 Hours of Imola. Alongside team-mates Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa, Buemi claimed a major win in Italy, which also marked Toyota’s 100th race in the championship and its 50th victory.

Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa drove the Toyota GR010 Hybrid Hypercar to victory in front of a crowd of more than 92,000 fans.

Buemi also took the wheel during the victory celebrations, while his team-mates sat on either side of the car. Toyota Gazoo Racing shared a video montage of special moments from the event on Instagram with the caption: “One for the history books. 100th race. 50th win. TR010 debut. Double podium. @toyotaracing.wec deserve every bit of this celebration! #WEC #6HImola #Toyota.”

Mahindra Racing’s Nyck de Vries also enjoyed a strong result at Imola, finishing third and securing a podium alongside his team-mates Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayashi.

What’s next in Formula E

Formula E drivers will now turn their attention to the Berlin double-header. Season 12 is six races in, with 11 more to follow before the finale in August. Rounds 7 and 8 are scheduled to take place in Berlin on 2 and 3 May.

Buemi’s win at Imola comes just weeks after he secured his first Formula E podium of the season in Jeddah (Round 5). He is currently ninth in the Drivers’ Standings with 43 points. While the Mexico City E-Prix proved challenging, he has otherwise finished in the top eight in the remaining races.

Nyck de Vries, meanwhile, has struggled for consistency this season and sits 14th in the Drivers’ Standings with 12 points.
