Mitch Evans to leave Jaguar TCS Racing after a decade: “Time is right to embark on a new challenge”
Jaguar TCS Racing driver Mitch Evans has been on a shared journey with the team in Formula E ever since both made their debut a decade ago. Now, Evans has announced that he will leave the team at the end of the season, with Jaguar confirming it as a mutual decision. The news comes months after Antonio Felix da Costa joined the team following his switch from Porsche.
The post was accompanied by a video showcasing Evans’ decade-long journey - from making his Formula E debut with Jaguar to securing multiple race wins with the outfit over ten seasons.
Antonio Felix da Costa reacted with a crying emoji, while Jaguar TCS Racing commented: “11 to go… let’s do this,” referring to the remaining 11 races of Season 12.
Speaking about his departure in a statement to FormulaE.com, Evans said, “To have been with Jaguar TCS Racing right from the beginning and to have achieved so much success over the past ten years in Formula E has been incredible. It has been a memorable experience, with so many highlights throughout our journey together, but the time is right to embark on a new challenge next season.”
Sharing his ambition for the current campaign, Evans added, “I am grateful to Jaguar for the opportunity to race for such an iconic brand and will be giving my all to win the Drivers’ World Championship this season, while working closely with my team-mate and friend Antonio [Felix da Costa] as we battle for the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ World Championships.”
On the decision, he added, “Both Mitch and the team have reached this decision together and, with 11 races still remaining in our partnership, we will be doing everything we can at Jaguar TCS Racing to support Mitch’s efforts in the Drivers’ World Championship, as well as our fight for the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ World Championships.”
“Throughout my time in Formula E, Mitch has been a formidable competitor and a superbly gifted racing driver. His record number of wins has all been achieved with Jaguar, so on behalf of the entire Jaguar TCS Racing team, I would like to thank Mitch and wish him all the best for the future,” he added.
The next Rounds 7 and 8 are scheduled to take place in Berlin on 2 and 3 May.
