Anthony Joshua finally eyes summer return in July as training camp nears after personal tragedy
Anthony Joshua is preparing for his return to boxing this summer. The former two-time heavyweight champion has been away from the ring for several months. His last fight came in December, when he delivered a dominant win over Jake Paul. Since then, fans have been waiting for news about his comeback.
Joshua is expected to begin his training camp soon. While there is no confirmed fight date yet, the target is a return around July. For now, his focus remains on regaining full fitness and mental sharpness. He is taking a careful and steady approach.
The past few months have been difficult for Anthony Joshua. Shortly after his last fight, he was involved in a tragic car accident in Nigeria. The incident claimed the lives of two of his close friends. The emotional impact of that loss deeply affected him. He also suffered minor physical injuries in the accident.
Because of this, Joshua had to delay his return to training. Now, the 34-year-old is slowly getting back to his usual routine. His condition is improving, and he is close to resuming full training.
His promoter, Eddie Hearn, recently shared an update. Speaking to Sun Sports, he said Joshua is only weeks away from entering camp. Hearn explained that Joshua always feels comfortable in a structured training environment. However, it was important to wait until his body was fully healed.
At this stage, there is no rush to book a fight. The main goal is to rebuild rhythm and confidence. Joshua wants to feel like his old self again before stepping into the ring. Once he spends some time in camp, discussions about opponents will begin.
Hearn also mentioned that he plans to meet Joshua after this phase. Together, they will explore possible options for his comeback fight. A July return remains the likely target, but nothing has been finalized.
Recently, Joshua was seen training with Oleksandr Usyk. The sessions created excitement among fans. However, this was not part of a full training camp. It was more about regaining sharpness and staying active. The training showed that Joshua is gradually returning to top-level preparation.
Outside the ring, Joshua continues to deal with personal grief. He lost his friends Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami in the accident. The emotional pain still remains. Hearn admitted that such a loss never truly fades.
Despite everything, Joshua remains strong and focused. He is determined to move forward. He also wants to honour his friends through his comeback. His journey back to the ring is not just physical. It is also deeply personal.
