Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has opened up about his dream of following the success of club legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney after being crowned the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year. The Portuguese midfielder has been one of United’s standout performers this season and played a major role in the club’s return to the UEFA Champions League under manager Michael Carrick. His consistent displays and leadership have made him one of the most influential players in the Premier League this year.

The 31-year-old has contributed heavily in attack with 19 assists and several important goals during the campaign. Despite the personal recognition, Fernandes admitted that his main focus remains winning major trophies with Manchester United and building a legacy similar to some of the club’s greatest ever players.

Bruno Fernandes also opened up on his personality and leadership approach on the field. The midfielder explained that he has never been someone who can easily hide his feelings during matches.

He said that some people appreciate his passion while others may criticise it, but he believes it is part of who he is as both a player and a captain. Fernandes also said that although he cannot completely change his personality, he continues working every day to improve himself as a footballer, leader and teammate.

The Manchester United captain further stated that his biggest ambition is to win the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League with the club. Fernandes explained that receiving an award alongside names such as Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo is a proud moment for him, but he ultimately wants to match their success in terms of trophies and achievements.

He admitted that he has always been open about his ambitions and does not try to hide his desire to bring major silverware back to Old Trafford.

Notably, Fernandes’ latest achievement now places him alongside Manchester United greats like George Best, Bobby Charlton and Roy Keane, who also won the prestigious award during their careers.

Manchester United have already sealed their qualification place in the Champions League with two matches remaining. The Red Devils will next lock horns with Nottingham Forest FC in a home match on Sunday, 17th May at the Old Trafford.
