Dana White drops bombshell on possible return of banned MMA Journalist of the Year winner

UFC President Dana White has surprisingly hinted at a possible reconciliation with MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, potentially ending years of friction. This comes after White publicly acknowledged his feelings on Logan Paul's podcast. Helwani, who was previously banned for prematurely reporting UFC news, has expressed willingness to return if invited.

In a statement that caused a stir in the MMA community, UFC President Dana White opined on the possibility of an Ariel Helwani return to UFC events, as he has been away from the events for quite some time now. White actually raised this possibility in an appearance on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast after hinting that reconciliation between both entities could occur after nearly a decade of friction.

A rocky history between Ariel Helwani and the UFC

A towering voice in the media of combat sport, Helwani has won the MMA Journalist of the Year title eleven times. However, he lost his way with the UFC in 2016 when he published news about Brock Lesnar participating in UFC 200 on his comeback and also the Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz rematch at UFC 202, before any announcement from the UFC. This act constituted a breach of protocol for the UFC; thus, his accreditation was revoked, and he was banned for some time until public outcry insisted on lifting it.
Helwani has not been seen in the promotion's official media pool since UFC 248 in 2020. He has been pretty vocal about the souring relationship with Dana White and has chosen to direct his efforts toward independent projects, like his shows and interviews, instead of within the UFC limelight.

Dana White opens the door to reconciliation

On the podcast, Logan Paul raised Helwani’s name while speaking about the current faces and star power within the UFC. White was very surprised when he replied, "How is he doing?" Before that, White actually admitted, "I am upset about it too. Maybe we should figure this thing out; I mean, probably all of us should actually get back together." These remarks would be a rare moment when White softened in public, as the UFC President is and has often been blatantly critical of Helwani.
Helwani, in return, indicated that he would be willing to return if invited, holding onto his grievances. "I would say, 'Yes,' " he said, acknowledging that wrongs have been done, but the opportunity to mend would outweigh the bitterness of the past.

What this could do for UFC coverage

With Dana White going back on his word, following that with a Helwani return would change the media dynamics. For years, people considered him an important watchdog and storyteller, magnifying the voices and breaking some of the most industry-shaping news. His absence has been deeply felt by fans who cherish his voice and depth of content. A reconciliation could lend renewed credibility to UFC media relations and draw in the hardcore MMA audiences that still find Helwani indispensable to the sport’s narrative. Also Read: No Second Chances: Dana White Issues Lifetime Ban for UFC Fighter’s Post-Fight OutburstWhile no official steps have been taken, White’s comments alone mark a major shift.
