Hunter Armstrong delivers brutal $250,000 reality check at Enhanced Games while drug free stars outshine enhanced athletes in Las Vegas
Organizers had expected athletes using drugs to dominate the competition and possibly break world records. But Armstrong proved that years of training and natural ability could still win on one of the most debated stages in sports right now. The event was held outside the rules of World Aquatics, which allowed athletes to compete while using banned substances. Even with the controversy surrounding the Games, Armstrong repeatedly said he remained fully clean throughout the competition. Because of that, he believes he should still be eligible to represent Team USA at the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Hunter Armstrong and Fred Kerley become biggest talking points at controversial Enhanced Games
Armstrong came close to a major record during his winning swim. Had he beaten the men’s 50-meter backstroke world record of 23.55 seconds, set by Kliment Kolesnikov in 2023, he would have earned a $1 million bonus. He did use the event’s advanced “super suits,” but he avoided any performance-enhancing treatments that several others accepted.
Those performances quickly became one of the biggest stories from the opening weekend. Organizers had promoted the Games by suggesting enhanced athletes would easily overpower clean competitors and break records across multiple sports. That did not happen.
Several athletes in swimming and weightlifting failed to reach the historic marks many expected. Instead, the clean athletes ended up taking most of the attention.
