Katie Ledecky sends early warning ahead of LA 2028 Olympic Games with stunning 1500m win at the Pro Swim Series in Austin

Katie Ledecky has once again made a bold statement with her performances. This time begins from the start of her 2026 season. The American great dominated the women’s 1500m freestyle at the Pro Swim Series Austin on Wednesday, January 14. She touched the wall in 15:23.21, a time that quickly grabbed attention across the swimming world.

The performance showed that Ledecky remains far ahead of her rivals in distance events inside the pool. The swimming star dominated the race from the opening laps and never looked under pressure. With this win, she has sent a strong signal to her competitors ahead of the upcoming LA 2028 Olympic Games.

Katie Ledecky opens up on her strong start to the 2026 season

Katie Ledecky turned the race into a one-sided contest very early. She pulled away from the field with ease and kept extending her lead. By the time she finished, she had lapped every other swimmer in the final. Brinkleigh Hansen finished second in 16:31.31 but was more than a minute behind the winner.

Despite it being her first long-course race in several months, Ledecky produced the second-fastest 1500m freestyle time in history. The only faster swim remains her own world record of 15:20.48, set back in May 2018. The result confirmed her status as the undisputed queen of distance swimming.

After the race, Ledecky explained that she felt pleased with the swim. Speaking to SwimSwam, she said she came into the meet without high expectations and was unsure what to expect after heavy Christmas training. She added that it was her first long-course race since the World Championships in Singapore last July and August, so she tried to stay relaxed. According to her, keeping expectations low sometimes leads to her best performances. The win followed the momentum she maintained throughout last year.

Other stars also impressed in Austin. World champion Anna Elendt won the women’s 100m breaststroke in 1:06.91. Three-time Olympic champion Bobby Finke claimed the men’s 1500m freestyle in 15:01.70. Regan Smith topped the women’s 100m backstroke with a time of 57.98 seconds. Meanwhile, Summer McIntosh and Leon Marchand advanced to the 200m individual medley finals.

The 2026 Pro Swim Series Austin continues on Thursday, January 15. Finals are scheduled in several events, including the 200m individual medley, 50m freestyle, and 400m freestyle.
