Luke Littler's explosive commentary on the Darts boo boys draws parallels to Wayne Rooney’s famous World Cup outburst
Luke Littler has spoken out against the Darts boo boys, likening the abuse to an iconic Wayne Rooney moment. When he first entered the scene, the World No. 1 was the fans’ favorite, but lately, he has been the target of some jeers. The 19-year-old got angry and yelled, “You pay for my prize money,” at a small group of attendees at the World Darts Championships after a heated argument with Rob Cross, as he told boo-boys. After a mixed reaction of boos and cheers following his World Masters win over Mike De Decker, he said, “I think people want to see new winners.”
“People are getting bored with me, Luke [Humphries], and Gian [van Veen] winning.
“Obviously, people can pick who they support and who they want to boo, but I am not going to do anything during the game or after it; I am just going to do my darts.”
Luke Littler was then questioned about whether it is due to the culture in the country and how it occurs in other sports, like football. He mentioned the video of Wayne Rooney at the World Cup after England had drawn with Algeria. He said as the camera zoomed in for a close-up, “Nice to see your home fans booing you.”
Although the Manchester United and Three Lions hero later apologized for his outburst, Littler has watched and also learned from it.
He disclosed, “You’ve seen it with Wayne Rooney. That clip at the World Cup.
“I saw that on my TikTok literally a few hours after the Rob Cross game, which was pretty crazy.
“I’ve learned from the Worlds: don’t react, and just play my darts.”
Luke Littler escaped a major scare as he came through 3-2 on sets. When not blowing opponents away, he grinds and simply has the presence to put them off. Then in leg two of the fifth set on throw, De Decker misses a match dart at the bull for a 167 checkout to keep the match alive. His bid for Winmau World Masters success goes on with Ross Smith as the next opponent for the Nuke on Saturday night.
