Lucy Milgrim is just nine years old, but what she did on March 7 made people stop and watch. At the Arnold Sports Festival in Ohio, Lucy lifted 180 pounds in a deadlift. That is three times her body weight. She weighs only 60 pounds. The moment was recorded and later shared online, where it quickly spread. The video crossed millions of views and likes, with people surprised to see someone so young lift that much weight so smoothly.
What stood out was not just the number, but how calm and ready she looked. Before the lift, Lucy jogged in place, shook out her arms, and took deep breaths. As her name was called and music played, she stayed focused. Then, in one clean motion, she pulled the bar up and completed the lift. No struggle, no pause. Just control. Right after, she smiled, raised her arms, and showed her strength with confidence.
Lucy Milgrim’s 180-pound deadlift at Arnold Sports Festival shows her strength, training routine, and support from Brett, Michelle, and coach Vougar Oroudjov
Lucy Milgrim’s lift did not happen by chance. She trains often and takes her sport seriously. According to her family, she practices four to five times a week. On top of that, she also trains once a week at home in their family gym. Her father, Brett Milgrim, coaches her and says she has always been naturally strong.
He believes she started with a higher level of strength than most kids her age.
Her mother, Michelle Milgrim, shared that Lucy already holds three records with USA Powerlifting. That shows her progress is not new. She has been building toward moments like this for some time now. Along with her 180-pound deadlift, she can squat 150 pounds and bench press 85 pounds.
Lucy also spends time in another sport. She has been wrestling for three years and trains regularly. She got into it by watching her parents train. She told USA Today that she saw them doing “cool stuff” in the gym and wanted to try it herself. Wrestling became part of her routine because her father is also a coach.
She is also learning from Vougar Oroudjov, who won a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympics. Having guidance from someone at that level has helped her improve both her strength and technique.
When asked what she enjoys most, Lucy said she loves lifting “really big weight.” That simple answer explains a lot. She enjoys the challenge, and it shows every time she steps onto the platform.
