Roland Garros winner Mirra Andreeva teases Flavio Cobolli with cheeky message during shared flight
Mirra Andreeva is still enjoying the biggest week of her young career. Just days after winning her first Grand Slam title at the French Open, the 19-year-old shared a light-hearted moment with men’s runner-up Flavio Cobolli while the two were traveling to their next tournament. Andreeva won the 2026 French Open women’s singles title with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over qualifier Maja Chwalinska in Paris. The win made her the youngest Roland Garros women’s champion since 1992 and gave her the first Grand Slam trophy of her career.
Meanwhile, Cobolli came close to making history himself. The Italian battled hard against Alexander Zverev in the men’s final but fell short in five sets, losing 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1. The defeat left him with a runner-up finish after a memorable run through the tournament.
A day after the finals, Andreeva posted a photo from their flight together. Alongside the picture, she wrote, “Almost 2 Slams in the photo.” The playful comment appeared to be a friendly tease aimed at Cobolli, who came within one win of lifting his first Grand Slam trophy.
Although the final score looked comfortable, Andreeva did not have an easy start against Maja Chwalinska. The Polish qualifier began strongly and tested the Russian early in the match. However, once Andreeva settled down, she quickly took control and never looked back on her way to the title.
After the victory, Andreeva delivered one of the most personal speeches of her career. Instead of only thanking her team, she also gave credit to herself for staying strong through difficult moments.
“Last but not least I also wanna thank myself for believing in myself. Always giving my 100% even when it’s tough. Trying every day to be better as a person and as a player. Believing I can do this. Fighting so many demons inside of me. Only I know how tough it was for me. How nervous I was these last few weeks. Also thanks to myself for working so hard and giving my best,” Andreeva said.
Her emotional words showed just how much the title meant after years of hard work. Now, with her first Grand Slam trophy in hand, Andreeva will turn her attention to Wimbledon, which begins on June 29 at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Cobolli is also expected to continue his strong season as he looks to build on the confidence gained from reaching his first Grand Slam final.
