Tyson Fury is facing renewed scrutiny over his planned boxing comeback after his brother Shane Fury admitted there are doubts about whether the former world champion can return to his peak level. Tyson Fury announced his retirement in January last year, just weeks after suffering a second straight defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. At the time, the decision appeared final. However, six months later, Tyson Fury reversed course and confirmed his intention to return to the ring in 2026.

Tyson Fury has since been seen training in Thailand as he prepares for a possible comeback fight within the next few months. His team believes a return bout could happen as early as April, with further fights planned later in the year if the initial comeback goes well. While the news has generated excitement among fans, Shane Fury has offered a more cautious and honest view on his brother’s chances.

Shane Fury offers a frank assessment of Tyson Fury’s comeback plans

Speaking to Boxing King Media, Shane Fury said Tyson Fury does not look like a typical fighter in terms of physique but remains physically strong and fit. Shane Fury explained that his brother’s appearance can be misleading and said Tyson Fury still has natural strength, talent, and determination. However, Shane Fury admitted he is unsure whether Tyson Fury’s best days are behind him. He said there were no clear signs of decline in Tyson Fury’s most recent fight against Oleksandr Usyk, whom he described as a great fighter, but acknowledged that time and mileage are factors.

Tyson Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, has confirmed that the former champion is aiming to fight up to three times in 2026. Spencer Brown said discussions are ongoing with several potential opponents and that a contract is close to being finalized, with an announcement expected soon. One of the names being considered is Arslanbek Makhmudov, who has not fought since his points win over David Allen in October. Brown said Makhmudov is among a group of four or five opponents currently under review.

Tyson Fury has also continued to talk about a possible third fight with Oleksandr Usyk. Usyk recently said he would consider another bout if it is for the undisputed heavyweight title, keeping the door open for a future trilogy. Tyson Fury will continue concentrating on his set of exercises before returning to boxing. However, Shane Fury's comment points out that there is still some doubt about whether Tyson can regain his peak performance level in order to return to heavyweight boxing in a prominent role.
