The highly captivating Africa Cup of Nations has been going on in full force; however, one recent game featured an unexpected twist that may never have happened in football history. Uganda played off against
Nigeria in the Group C encounter, but injuries, disciplinary issues, and mounting pressure forced them to take a bizarre decision that made headlines.
Uganda was forced to deploy not one, not two, but three goalkeepers during the same match. The team started with one of the most experienced players on their squad, Onyango. However, he was sent off from the pitch after suffering an ankle injury as his team was trailing behind. He was then replaced by Salim Jamal Magoola, who was on the field for only 11 minutes.
The goalkeeper was sent off with a red card for handling the ball outside the penalty area, as he was trying to save the goal from the effort of Nigeria's striker Victor Osimhen. Following that, Uganda was left with a ten-player squad, and they were forced to call up their third goalkeeper, Nafian Alionzi, who played the remainder of the match.

Nafian Alionzi played under immense pressure after Uganda was forced to change their goalkeepers twice before him. He made a valiant effort for his team; however, Nigeria was able to take the lead and finish the match with a scoreline of 3-1. Following their victory, the knockout stage in Group C began to take shaped. While Angola was eliminated, Tunisia and Tanzania advance further in the competition after having a 1-1 draw. On the other hand, Congo and Senegal have secured their spots in the top 16. Congo and Senegal both handed Benin and Botswana tough losses in their respective matches with the same scoreline of 3-0.
At the same time, Uganda's clash against Nigeria would not be remembered for their valiant effort or crushing loss. It will be spoken about for years for the decision to use three goalkeepers in the same match. With a match making headlines behind them, it remains to be seen how their performance will fare in the rest of the tournament.
