AGRA: Caught in a traffic jam in Meerut on Sunday evening, a UP Police woman sub-inspector, posted in Aligarh, vented her frustration on a young couple on a car by threatening them and abusing them by saying, "I am a police officer in uniform, I will urinate in your mouth."A video of the incident has been widely circulated on social media. In the purported video, SI Ratna Rathi could be seen stepping out of her car and verbally abusing the man. She also purportedly threatened him with dire consequences, including sending him to jail and beating him with a belt.
Woman SI threatens couple
Meerut SSP Vipin Tada said the identity of the woman officer was established. "She is posted in Aligarh, and necessary information has been shared with police in that district," SSP Tada added.Aligarh SSP Neeraj Jadaun told TOI on Tuesday, "The woman SI has been attached to the police lines with immediate effect. Instructions were issued for a detailed probe into the matter."The incident took place near Meerut's Bombay Bazaar when the officer in uniform was on her way home from Muzaffarnagar in her private vehicle and was upset after she was caught in traffic and, being a cop, wasn't allowed the right of way, a police officer said.
Eyewitnesses said when a woman accompanying the man tried to intervene, the SI misbehaved with her too. Some of the shocked bystanders, who recorded the incident on their phones, later circulated it on social media on Monday. The clips were widely shared, triggering criticism and raising questions over police conduct.Police, on their part, said the SI had gone to Muzaffarnagar to probe a case linked to the Dowry Prohibition Act and was reportedly travelling in her private car. The incident took place on her way back. Cops said the couple is yet to approach the police.
