During his Gujarat visit, Narendra Modi emphasized the strategic value of the Deesa air base, stating that the project had faced delays for years despite its importance. He noted that momentum picked up after his government expedited pending clearances. Situated in Banaskantha district, around 130 km from the Pakistan border, the base was inaugurated in October 2022 and is being developed as a crucial part of India’s western air defence network. Deesa fills a key gap between Indian Air Force bases at Jodhpur, Nal, Naliya, and Bhuj, enhancing the IAF’s ability to conduct both defensive and offensive operations in the western sector.
