Race organisers later shared a statement explaining what happened. They said, “Despite the immediate arrival of emergency services, the emergency medics were unable to save the driver involved, Juha Miettinen, after he had been extracted from the vehicle; the driver died at the Medical Centre after all attempts at resuscitation proved unsuccessful.”
Six other drivers were also taken for medical checks. Officials confirmed that none of them are in life-threatening condition. The race was cancelled right after the crash to allow rescue teams to manage the situation. A minute’s silence will also be held before the next race as a mark of respect.
