Who was Pablo Oliveira Costa? Brazilian MMA Fighter dies at 31 with electrocution accident while working

Brazilian mixed martial artist Pablo Oliveira Costa died in a tragic accident while working outside the ring in São José. The 31-year-old fighter was installing an air-conditioning unit when the incident happened. According to reports by The Sun, Costa had just finished the installation and was moving a metal ladder. The ladder touched a high-voltage power line and caused a severe electric shock. Emergency teams reached the scene quickly but found him unconscious on the ground.

Doctors and paramedics tried to save him immediately. Costa had serious injuries and burns. He briefly showed signs of life and received first aid from rescuers. However, he soon went into cardiac arrest. Medics performed CPR for about 40 minutes but could not revive him. Witnesses said he attempted to stand after the shock before suddenly collapsing. He was declared dead at the scene, leaving family, friends and the fighting community in shock.

Pablo Oliveira Costa balanced his fighting career with everyday jobs. During summer he installed air-conditioning units. He also worked as a handyman and sometimes as a security guard. Inside sports, he competed in amateur and semi-professional bouts in Muay Thai, MMA and Jiu-Jitsu. His coach Mateus Nascimento said they were preparing him for a professional career.

“It was his dream to make a living from fighting. He left his mark in every training session, in every fight and in every laugh after the round”, Nascimento said as reported by The Sun.

Friends and teammates paid tribute online. Many described him as determined and cheerful. His partner Karen Thaisa spoke about his love for competition.

“He always gave his best. He started in Muay Thai, but had already moved on to MMA, which was what he loved most. He also did Jiu-Jitsu fights, which he won and took home the champion’s trophy; he loved that”, she said.

One friend said that the gym felt empty after his passing, saying the training mat had gone quiet. Costa’s wake was held on February 7 in São José. The local fighting community attended to honor him. Coaches and athletes remembered his discipline and energy. Though he never turned fully professional, many believed he had strong potential. His sudden death has deeply affected fellow fighters who trained with him daily.
