“Will give him business advice”- Francis Ngannou takes playful dig at Jon Jones ahead of Ronda Rousey vs Gina Carano Netflix MMA event
Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has shared his thoughts on Jon Jones joining the broadcast team for the upcoming Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano fight card this weekend. The event will take place at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles and will stream live on Netflix. The card is promoted by Most Valuable Promotions, the company co-founded by Jake Paul.
The fight card has already attracted major attention because of the return of women’s MMA pioneers Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano. Fans are also excited about the co-main event between Nate Diaz and Mike Perry. Ngannou is also set to compete on the card in a heavyweight clash against Philipe Lins. Meanwhile, Jones will appear as part of the commentary and analyst team alongside Cain Velasquez, Kenny Florian, and Mauro Ranallo.
During the pre-fight media conference, Francis Ngannou was asked whether Jon Jones was attending the event mainly for work or simply to enjoy the show. The Cameroonian heavyweight responded with a light-hearted jab at his longtime rival. Ngannou suggested that Jones was probably attending for both reasons and added that the former UFC champion could still learn a few lessons about the business side of combat sports. He also joked that if he met Jones during the event, he might share some advice with him about handling business matters better.
The comments went viral because of the history between the two fighters. For several years, fans hoped to see Ngannou and Jones compete against each other inside the UFC. However, the fight never became official despite long-running discussions and negotiations.
Earlier this year, Ngannou explained how those failed negotiations changed his mindset about chasing specific opponents. Speaking in an interview with The Schmo, he said he no longer focuses too heavily on fighting one particular name. According to Ngannou, he spent years waiting for the Jones matchup to happen, but eventually realized that constantly targeting one fighter was not helping his career move forward.
Ngannou explained that after his victory over Jairzinho Rozenstruik, discussions about fighting Jones continued for years without progress. He said the experience taught him that the most important thing is simply staying active and taking fights that make sense professionally and financially.
