The
Baltimore Orioles have been mentioned in trade discussions involving
Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins. The idea surfaced in early March 2026 as teams continue shaping their rosters before Opening Day.
Baltimore is expected to compete this season but could still add help to the starting rotation. Alcantara is one of the pitchers being discussed because of his track record and the remaining years on his contract.
Proposed Orioles-Marlins Trade Package
One proposed trade would send Dean Kremer and top infield prospect Coby Mayo from Baltimore to Miami in exchange for Sandy Alcantara. As of March 2026, both Kremer and Mayo remain on the Orioles’ 40-man roster.
Kremer is currently part of a Baltimore rotation that also includes Kyle Bradish, Trevor Rogers, Shane Baz, and Zach Eflin.
Alcantara remains the leading arm in Miami’s rotation as the Marlins continue their rebuilding process.
Why the Baltimore Orioles Would Consider Adding Sandy Alcantara
Baltimore Orioles would be adding a pitcher with a strong résumé. SaAlcantara won the National League Cy Young Award in 2022 and is under contract for two more seasons. His salary for 2026 is $17.3 million.

The Orioles could use another dependable starter. Eflin is recovering from back surgery, and the team may want more certainty in the rotation during the early part of the season.
Why the Trade Could Work for Miami Marlins
For the Miami Marlins, the deal would bring both immediate help and future upside. Kremer has shown he can handle a full season in the rotation and would give Miami innings right away.
Mayo is seen as a power hitter who can play the corner infield spots. Miami’s system does not have many infield prospects with that kind of power, so he would fill a need. The move would also fit the team’s recent approach of trading veteran pitchers, including Edward Cabrera and Ryan Weathers.
Performance Snapshot of Key Players
Sandy Alcantara returned from Tommy John surgery in 2025 and finished the season with improved results in the later part of the year. He still handled a full workload.

Pros and Cons of the Deal
For Baltimore Orioles, the benefit is adding a starter who has shown he can handle a large number of innings. Sandy Alcantara made 31 starts in 2025. The concern is his 5.36 ERA last season after returning from surgery.
Miami Marlins would gain a major league pitcher and a high-upside prospect. However, trading Alcantara would remove the most established pitcher in their rotation.
