Atlanta Braves fall into early-season slump
The Braves started 2025 with a 0–7 record—their worst since 2016 and one of only 30 teams to do so. As of June, their playoff odds have dropped from 93% to just 26%. They’ve lost another seven-game stretch recently and are struggling to score runs.
Despite dominant talent featuring stars like Ronald Acuña Jr. and Spencer Strider, key injuries have hurt their lineup and pitching depth. Still, ESPN notes they have a 54–70% shot via simulations. Oddsmaker BetMGM lists them at –150 to make the playoffs and +125 to miss.

The Red Sox entered May with heavy expectations after adding Garrett Crochet and Alex Bregman. But May turned into a “brutal month” marked by bad starts, injuries, and a bullpen that collapsed. They began the three-series set at Atlanta on May 30 with a 5–1 win but remained below .500 overall.
BetMGM has them at –130 to reach the playoffs and +110 to miss. Plus, FanGraphs and PECOTA show wide gaps in expectations. FanGraphs gives them over 50% odds, while PECOTA is much lower
Both storied franchises are far below preseason promise. The Braves hope injuries heal and offense wakes up. The Red Sox need their rotation to recover andtheir bullpen to hold leads. With less than half the season left, both clubs are racing the clock. Let’s see what the odds say.
