Indian wushu team creates history, bags seven medals at junior worlds

NEW DELHI: The Indian wushu team created history by securing a total of seven medals at the ninth Junior World Championships, held in Brunei. The team won two gold, one silver and four bronze.

This marked the first time that the country's players returned with such a rich medal haul. Aryan, competing in the 48kg weight category, clinched the gold after a fierce contest against a Chinese player. Additionally, Shaurya triumphed over his Iranian opponent to win another yellow metal.

However, Indian players Tanish Nagar in the 56kg category lost to an athlete from Uzbekistan; Abhijeet in the 60kg category suffered defeat against an Algerian player; Divyanshi in the 60kg women's category was defeated by an Iranian opponent and Yuvraj in the 42kg weight category was humbled by a player from Kazakhstan, all of whom settled for bronze medals.

Furthermore, Indian athlete Nang Mingbi Borphukan won silver in the Taolu Jian Shu Group C event. The junior Worlds was held in Brunei from Sept 22 to 30, in which a 24-member Indian team participated.
