“Amazing at f*****g up your plays”: NBA legend Dwyane Wade hails 12x NBA All-Star Chris Paul’s extraordinary defense

Chris Paul’s defensive brilliance is often overlooked. While his offensive skills get much of the attention, CP3’s defensive IQ and ability to disrupt opposing teams have been a nightmare for even the best scorers. NBA legend Dwyane Wade would not ignore the capability of the San Antonio Spurs veteran as he showered high praise for the 12-time NBA All-Star defensive prowess in the NBA.

Dwyane Wade acknowledged Chris Paul’s defensive genius

NBA legend Dwyane Wade recently broke down what makes Chris Paul one of the greatest defenders in NBA history. Despite standing at just six feet tall, Paul has the ability to throw an entire offense off its rhythm before plays even develop.

"Out of all the people that I've played against, from a defensive standpoint, when it comes to his ability to be able to muck everything up—right, we say 'muck' is one of the words we use—he can muck everything up. CP. New Orleans CP, Clipper CP, will f**k up your whole offense," Wade stated.

The Golden State Warriors superstar Draymond Green possesses a similar skill set in disrupting opposing game plans, but CP3 does it from the backcourt, reading plays before they happen.

"He's smart. He knows everything. He knows every position on the floor—as a point guard, you're supposed to, right? He knows the opposite team, too. He knows all the positions. So CP was amazing at f*****g up your plays. And I be looking, I'm like, 'Bro, go let me get this off,'" Wade continued.

Paul’s defensive prowess has earned him nine NBA All-Defensive Team selections. Wade also shared a personal strategy he used to counter Paul’s relentless defense— getting physical early to disrupt CP’s own game.

"So the only thing I would do with CP—because CP is fiery as s**t—I'm hitting him. I'm hitting CP before I get to the point I got to score on CP. I'm hitting him. I got to get CP off his game a little bit, but I need to score on him. So CP, he a little loose up there. And so what I did is I try to be physical with CP," Wade recalled.

"Both of us have, in games—even as friends—we look at each other like, 'Do that st again, I'm f**k you up' type of energy. So I'm coming through, and I know I got CP going to guard me. I'm coming through that screen with an elbow," he added.

Even at 39, Paul continues to impact the game. Recently, he tied Lakers legend Kobe Bryant for 15th on the all-time regular-season games played list with 1,346 appearances. With Clifford Robinson (1,380) next in line, CP3 is steadily climbing the ranks of longevity in NBA history.

This season, Paul remains productive, averaging 8.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 7.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 42.4% from the field and 38.1% from three.
