NBA contract update: Washington Wizards lock in promising 7-footer Tristan Vukcevic with new multi-year deal

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Tristan Vukcevic is joining the Washington Wizards on a three-year, $9 million standard NBA contract. According to ESPN, the third year will be a team option. Separately, Josh Robbins of The Athletic adds that Vukcevic will not play in Friday's game against the Pacers because of a bruise in his right hand.

Washington, which is already suffering with multiple injuries to important players, is in a difficult stretch. If Vukcevic is unable to play, Anthony Gill, who finished the previous game with 11 points, six assists, and three blocks in 23 minutes, becomes a deep-league streaming option.

Stating the same, Shams Charania wrote on X:

“The Washington Wizards are signing two-way center Tristan Vukcevic to a new three-year, $9 million deal, sources tell ESPN. Team option in third season. The Wizards and the 7-footer's agent, Jason Ranne of Wasserman, reached the new contract Saturday…”

The 7-foot forward has just 15 NBA games left on his expiring two-way contract before he reaches the 50-game cap. In 35 games this season, Vukcevic has averaged 7.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 47.8% field goal shooting.





Vukcevic took Alex Sarr's place as a backup after Washington traded Marvin Bagley III to the Dallas Mavericks during the trade deadline, and he has started the last two games in Sarr's place.

According to projections, Vukcevic will be Washington's backup center going into the 2026–2027 season when Sarr and Anthony Davis are healthy and make up the team's starting four.

To cover their open two-way berth, the Wizards are acquiring F Leaky Black. Black, 26, has played for the Capital City Go-Go for the past two seasons. In 14 games this season, he has averaged 10.9 points and 6.3 rebounds.

In his final 20 minutes as a starter, he finished with 14 points on 7 of 12 shooting, 8 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 assist. It's unclear if he will play against Charlotte on Sunday.

Vukcevic, who was making his second straight start, ended the evening with 14 points (7-12 FG, 0-5 3Pt), eight rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block across 20 minutes.

For the remainder of the game, Anthony Gill is probably going to be the Wizards' main center option. Vukcevic's availability for Sunday's matchup against the Hornets is currently in doubt.
