Why was Ime Udoka fined? Houston Rockets head coach lands in trouble for post-game remarks
Houston Rockets’ head coach Ime Udoka has been fined by the NBA. On December 17, 2025, a release was circulated about the punishment for the head coach. This came right after Udoka’s fearless remarks after the Houston Rockets’ overtime loss to the Denver Nuggets on December 15, 2025. The coach believed that it was the most poorly officiated game he had seen.
The coach has been fined a staggering amount of $25,000. The announcement was made by James Jones, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations. This is not the first time the head coach has faced punishment. Previously, the coach was suspended by the Boston Celtics for the entire 2022-2023 season. It was due to violating team policies and engaging in an improper relationship with a female staff member. Udoka later issued an apology to his family and teammates.
Following his comments, the NBA decided to fine the head coach a staggering amount of $25,000. The circular was released on December 17, under NBA Communications. The Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations of the league, made the announcement. It has been exclusively mentioned that the head coach was fined for his “public criticism of the officiating.” There has been no statement from Udoka after this release.

Head coach Ime Udoka fined for lashing out at officials after Houston Rockets overtime loss
The Houston Rockets faced a 3-point loss to the Denver Nuggets on December 15. It was an overtime loss. Houston coach Ime Udoka, however, believed that the officiating of the game was partially to blame for this loss. During the post-game interview, the head coach got vocal and lashed out at the officials. He stated, "Just in general, I think, most poorly officiated game I've seen in a long time." Udoka further stated, "[Officials Natalie Sago and Jamahl Ralls] have no business being out there, and [crew chief Zach Zarba] was acting starstruck. You're seeing all kinds of inconsistent calls, and I'm sure we should've gotten a few more techs." Udoka believed that a few of the calls made by the Rockets were ignored. One such was when Amen Thompson was called for a foul, as it seemed that he tripped Time Hardaway Jr. However, even though the Rockets challenged the call, it was upheld.
