Bo Nix’s injury sparks touching gesture from neighborhood kids in Denver

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has been receiving plenty of support after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in the AFC Divisional round, but one gesture stood out for its warmth and simplicity. In the days following his surgery news, neighborhood children surprised Nix and his wife Izzy with handmade get-well-soon cards, turning a difficult moment into a heart-touching story.

Nix broke his ankle late in Denver’s dramatic overtime win over the Buffalo Bills, an injury that ended his rookie playoff run just when it seemed to be taking off. While the Broncos celebrated their first postseason victory in more than a decade, the joy was mixed with concern for their young quarterback, who now faces months of recovery and rehabilitation.

Handmade cards bring smiles to the Bo Nix family

Amid the flood of messages from teammates, fans and former players, it was a few handwritten notes from children in his neighbourhood that captured the most attention. Izzy Nix shared photos on Instagram showing several colourful cards placed in their mailbox. One read, “Feel better soon!! #Go Broncos,” while others were decorated with hearts and bright drawings.



The modest remarks spread rapidly, and supporters praised the youngsters for being nice and the Nix family for sharing a private event. For a lot of people, it was a reminder of how much players can mean to their communities, even when they're not playing.

The timing made the gesture even more special. Just hours before the injury, Nix had guided Denver to a memorable playoff win, becoming only the second quarterback drafted by the franchise to record a postseason victory, after Tim Tebow in 2011. The rookie finished the game despite the injury and later learned he would need surgery, ruling him out for the rest of the playoffs.

With Nix sidelined, the Broncos have turned to backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham for the AFC Championship clash against the New England Patriots. Head coach Sean Payton expressed confidence in the veteran, but admitted losing his starting quarterback at this stage of the season was a tough blow.

Support pours in from fans, teammates and rivals

Outside the locker room, support for Nix has continued to pour in. Fans have sent messages, teammates have visited, and even rivals have offered advice. Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby, who has dealt with multiple surgeries himself, encouraged Nix to take his time, focus on recovery and lean on loved ones during the process.

Still, it was the children’s cards that brought a smile to an otherwise painful week. In professional sports, where there is a lot of pressure and criticism, this event stuck out as a rare show of pure generosity.
