The New England Patriots’ offseason overhaul continues, with the team parting ways with four players as they reshape their roster. Linebackers Curtis Jacobs and Andrew Parker Jr., along with offensive linemen Caleb Jones and Lecitus Smith, were all let go in the latest wave of moves. While none of these players were projected to have major roles in 2025, their releases indicate the Patriots’ ongoing effort to refine their depth chart as they look to rebound from a disappointing season. With new leadership in place and roster spots up for grabs, New England remains active in shaping its future.
Linebackers and offensive linemen among latest cuts
Curtis Jacobs was the most notable name among the group, having appeared in nine games for the
Patriots last season. The undrafted rookie linebacker out of Penn State was initially claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs at final roster cuts in August 2024. He contributed on both defense and special teams, logging 136 snaps in the latter phase and 23 on defense while recording four tackles. Despite these efforts, Jacobs' tenure in New England was short-lived as the team opted to move in a different direction.
Andrew Parker Jr. followed a different path to New England, signing with the Patriots’ practice squad in December after initially entering the league as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Appalachian State product later signed a futures contract in January but ultimately did not stick with the roster.
Caleb Jones, an offensive tackle out of Indiana, also saw his Patriots stint come to an end. After spending two seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Jones landed on New England’s practice squad in September 2024 and, like Parker, signed a futures contract in January. However, with the Patriots looking for fresh options on the offensive line, Jones was among those let go.
Lecitus Smith rounds out the list of releases. A sixth-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2022, Smith bounced around with the Texans, Eagles, and Packers before joining the Patriots. The Virginia Tech alum played in eight games last season, making one start. He was on the field for just five offensive snaps but played 28 on special teams.
These moves are likely just a small part of New England’s ongoing roster adjustments. With a new era underway, the Patriots appear focused on reshaping their team to better fit their vision for the future. Expect more changes as the offseason progresses.
