NEW DELHI: The Los Angeles Rams have reportedly executed a trade deal with the Atlanta Falcons, sending wide receiver Van Jefferson along with a seventh-round draft pick in 2025 to the Falcons in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the same draft. Multiple sources have confirmed this transaction on Tuesday.
Van Jefferson was selected by the Rams as the 57th overall pick in the 2020
NFL Draft, and in the following season, he managed to secure a starting position for all 17 games.
However, in the current season, Jefferson found himself playing a less prominent role due to the impressive performance of rookie standout Puka Nacua.
The emergence of Tutu Atwell and the return of All-Pro Cooper Kupp from injury further diminished Jefferson's playing time with the Rams.
In the Rams' recent game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Jefferson saw just two snaps on the field. Over the course of this season, despite starting in four out of five games, he had been targeted only 15 times, resulting in eight receptions for 108 yards and no touchdowns.
The Atlanta Falcons currently rely on a receiving corps led by Drake London and Mack Hollins, complemented by tight ends Kyle Pitts and Jonnu Smith.
During his career with the Rams, which spans 49 regular-season games, including 30 starts, Jefferson has amassed 101 receptions for 1,499 yards and 10 touchdowns. The majority of his production came in the 2021 season, where he recorded 50 receptions for 802 yards and six touchdowns.
Van Jefferson, currently 27 years old, is in the final year of his four-year, $5.61 million rookie contract.
