Elam now enters his fifth season and lands on his fourth team. He began his career with the Buffalo Bills after being selected 23rd overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. Expectations were high, but his role never fully stabilized. After three seasons, Buffalo moved on.


In 2025, Elam joined the Dallas Cowboys, where he started seven games. However, Dallas struggled heavily against the pass, ranking among the worst defenses in the league. Elam could not hold down a consistent role and was waived in November. He later signed with the Tennessee Titans but did not record a start there.


Despite that journey, the tools still stand out. Elam brings size, length, and speed. His 4.39-second 40-yard dash shows up in press situations, and that fits perfectly in defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s aggressive system.


There is also a wider context in Kansas City. Head coach Andy Reid is managing a tricky offseason. Patrick Mahomes is recovering from a left knee injury, though there is optimism around his Week 1 availability. On offense, the Chiefs added Kenneth Walker III in free agency, while Travis Kelce confirmed he will return for another season.
