Travis Kelce reveals what he really did during the Kansas City Chiefs bye week ahead of Broncos clash: "I went over to New York and..."
Kansas City fans spent the bye wondering whether the team could use the break to gather itself after the tight loss to Buffalo. The Chiefs had shown flashes but lacked the consistency they expect this time of year, and the Week 9 setback only added tension. As Kansas City shifts toward Sunday’s divisional showdown with Denver, Travis Kelce offered an unexpected look at how he stepped away from the grind and cleared his head. His comments arrived at a moment when the team’s mental reset is almost as important as the on-field prep.
With nearly two weeks between games, Kelce finally had space to disconnect. Instead of staying in Missouri, he chose to travel, something he rarely gets to do mid-season. His reflections on the latest episode of “New Heights,” the podcast he shares with his brother Jason, gave fans a sense of how he regrouped before one of the toughest matchups left on Kansas City’s schedule.
Later in the episode, Kelce explained why stepping away is valuable, especially when the season becomes repetitive and physically draining. “You get so ingrained in the routine of things,” Kelce said. “Your days are set. Your schedules are set during the season. The bye week is just that. If you’re fortunate enough to come out healthy, and you can get away. … I like to get away and recharge. See something else, see new city, feel like I’m somewhere else and kind of just shut it down.
“Being in Kansas City for 13 years straight for eight months out of the year, it’s like, that can be a nice home for somebody, but at the same time, I gotta move my feet. I gotta travel, I gotta see new things, visit friends,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs’ trip to Denver ended in frustration, as Kansas City fell 22-19 on a last-second 35-yard field goal by Wil Lutz. A tight, defensive game throughout, the Chiefs couldn’t capitalize on late opportunities, and Denver’s final drive proved decisive. The loss added pressure to Kansas City’s upcoming stretch and there's need for cleaner execution and more consistent rhythm on offense.

A mid-season breather Travis Kelce badly needed
Before the conversation turned to Denver, Jason asked how his younger brother spent the break, and Travis revealed that he didn’t stick around after the Bills loss. He needed a different environment and a few quiet days, and New York City became the place he drifted toward. “I got out of the house a little bit, I went over to New York,” Kelce said. “Just hung out. Put the feet up, saw some cool places, ate some great food. I got to feel the big city and its electricity and its buzz that it’s always got. “It’s cool to just vibe around the city like that. I think that’s one of my favorite things to do in New York — be one with the city. Just kind of walk the streets and feel the electricity, feeling everybody doing their own [expletive], and then meeting a few new people along the way.”Later in the episode, Kelce explained why stepping away is valuable, especially when the season becomes repetitive and physically draining. “You get so ingrained in the routine of things,” Kelce said. “Your days are set.
