Behind the NFL’s most powerful man stands a woman who built her own name long before the spotlight followed her. Jane Skinner is not just NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s wife. She is a former national news anchor, a storyteller, and a quiet force inside the football world. From cable news studios to league boardrooms, Skinner’s journey runs alongside the rise of the NFL itself. Their bond is rooted in patience, timing, and a shared passion for the game.

Meet Jane Skinner: The constant pillar behind Roger Goodell's massive success

Jane Skinner met Roger Goodell in the mid-1990s through mutual friends. At the time, she lived in Milwaukee and focused on her media career. Goodell worked for the NFL in New York. Their first real conversation was about football. In an interview with the “Los Angeles Times” in Feb. 2022, Skinner said she was not ready to settle down then. “I was on a career path,” she said. She added that Goodell was “super patient” as they stayed in touch across states.
Skinner later moved to N.Y., and the couple married in 1997. Goodell became the NFL commissioner in August 2006. Since then, Skinner has stayed close to the league, attending drafts, Super Bowls, and charity events. She once told “Fox News” during an NFL Honors media appearance that the draft is Goodell’s favourite event.
“That’s when you see these young men’s dreams come true,” she said.In 2001, they welcomed twin daughters. The family keeps their children away from public attention. Skinner believes that balance helped Goodell manage the pressure of leading a global sports league.
