NHL Trade Rumor: New York Rangers eye Vincent Trocheck as next big trade deal after Artemi Panarin
As Artemi Panarin was traded by the Rangers, the club is now preparing for their next big trade move, and speculations are suggesting that they are eyeing center Vincent Trocheck as the Rangers' prime trade candidate. As the NHL teams are now in a roster freeze until February 23, at this moment trade cannot be officially completed.
Meanwhile, New York has traded away Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings right before the freeze went into effect. The LA Kings have acquired NHL star forward Artemi Panarin with a two-year, $22 million contract, as reported by the NHL on Thursday.
Artemi Panarin is in the final year of his seven-year, $81.5 million contract, with $11.64 million in average annual value. In return, the Rangers have acquired forward prospect Liam Greentree and a conditional third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
After Artemi Panarin was traded this week by the New York Rangers, speculations are doing the rounds in this roster freeze if Vincent Trocheck is up next in line for trade by the club. As the New York Rangers are currently going through a significant roster shake-up, the team is continuing to move a high-profile player.
Multiple reports are confirming that Trocheck is the Rangers' top trade asset post-Panarin, with GM Chris Drury setting a high asking price. Meanwhile, Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period joined Sirius XM NHL Network on Wednesday with Steve Kouleas and Nate Thompson, where he discussed Vincent Trocheck’s potential trade plan.
Pagnotta stated during the interview, “The focus now shifts some of their other assets and Trocheck is somebody that’s generating a lot of interest from a lot of teams. Carolina is in that mix. Maybe that’s where they shift. I think Minnesota is on his radar or he’s on Minnesota’s radar. There are a few others.”
He further discussed how defenseman Braden Schneider is also generating interest, with the San Jose Sharks among suitors, while goalie Igor Shesterkin and blueliner Adam Fox appear off-limits.
“But you’ve got him, you have Braden Schneider, who’s generating a lot of interest. San Jose has had interest in him. There are other players on this team that I think they are willing to listen on outside of, the indication that I’ve gotten primarily has been, Igor (Shesterkin) is not going anywhere, Adam Fox isn’t going anywhere. They’d be willing to listen on just about everybody else," he added. (source: NHL Rumors.com)
Previously, the team already traded another high-impact player, Carson Soucy, to the New York Islanders last week for a third-round pick, to implement their retool strategy amid the Eastern Conference struggles. It is speculated that, though Panarin's trade fetched prospect Liam Greentree and conditional picks, Trocheck's value may exceed that package.
