Will Panthers’ Brad Marchand play tonight against the Montreal Canadiens after an undisclosed injury?
As the Florida Panthers are coming off a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, the team faced another massive blow when one of their key players, Brad Marchand, was sidelined with an undisclosed injury, potentially impacting their crucial plan ahead for the playoffs.
Reports suggest that Panthers star and veteran forward Brad Marchand was not able to finish the meeting with the Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, on Wednesday, due to an apparent injury. Marchand missed the entire third period of the contest following a hit late in the second frame.
Injuries have become a major issue for the Panthers, and Marchand’s injury adds more to the team’s woes. Florida has already faced huge setbacks after Aleksander Barkov, Seth Jones, and Matthew Tkachuk's injuries. However, with Marchand’s injury now, it would potentially affect the team’s performance.
Till now, the Florida Panthers have scored a 22-17-3 record and sit just two points from the playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. But will Brad Marchand be seen tonight in action against the Canadiens? Let’s find out.
In an unfortunate incident, Brad Marchand will not suit up for the Florida Panthers when they face off against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre on Thursday at 7 p.m. Florida Head Coach Paul Maurice announced it following Florida’s morning skate and said his star forward is considered day-to-day.
It happened as the veteran forward was not able to finish the meeting with the Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, due to an apparent injury. Marchand missed the entire third period of the contest following a hit late in the second frame.
Florida head coach Paul Maurice said after the loss that the 37-year-old Marchand has been “dealing with something,” but did not disclose the exact nature of the injury. However, reports suggest Marchand could be back as early as next game, and in fact, Maurice told the NHL that, “He might be our only short-term injury.”
With Marchand unavailable, A.J. Greer will move up from the third to the second line, while Jesper Boqvist will come up from the fourth to the third.
Apart from that, Florida is also playing without injured defensemen Seth Jones and Dmitry Kulikov. However, these players are expected back in the coming weeks and months, meaning they can come back to their full strength when the playoffs arrive.
