Zach Hyman's overtime goal gives Edmonton Oilers their third straight win after 10 attempts as they beat San Jose Sharks

Edmonton has never been a team that gives up easily. Down 3-0 after one period Thursday night, the Oilers simply went to work doing what they do best. They scored three unanswered goals in the third period, with two coming after pulling Connor Ingram for the extra attacker.

Zach Hyman secured the win 1:06 into overtime when he buried a one-timer off a Connor McDavid feed. The victory marked Edmonton's third straight win, an odd milestone for a team that went to the Stanley Cup Final last spring but somehow couldn't manage three consecutive victories through 55 games this season.

"We have a lot of great players in the room, and we're never out of a game," Hyman said after scoring his 22nd goal in 36 games. "There is a sense of belief that we can do it."

San Jose jumped all over Edmonton from the opening faceoff. Collin Graf needed just 26 seconds to beat Ingram, then Adam Gaudette made it 2-0 only 1:09 later. Michael Misa added another at 11:40 of the first period, sending Rogers Place into stunned silence.

The Oilers outshot San Jose 32-20 for the game, but the early damage left them chasing the scoreboard for nearly 42 minutes. Forward Kasperi Kapanen summarized the situation bluntly when asked about the slow start.

"Never in doubt," he said. "That's hockey sometimes, you start late. But as the game went on, we knew we had to make a push in the third and this team is always in it."

Leon Draisaitl cut the deficit to 3-1 just 1:34 into the third period. McDavid made it 3-2 with 3:05 remaining, beating Yaroslav Askarov from the left circle with Ingram on the bench for an extra attacker.

Evan Bouchard tied it with 59 seconds left, blasting a shot from inside the blue line through traffic for his 15th goal of the season. The defenseman finished with three points on the night, extending his point streak to four games with 11 points during that stretch. In overtime, McDavid found Hyman with a cross-ice pass for a one-timer that beat Askarov off the left post.


The win showed why opponents can never relax against Edmonton. The Oilers host Minnesota on Saturday, looking to make it four straight wins, which would represent their longest winning streak of the season and prove they're finally finding the consistency that carried them through last spring's playoff run.
