PARIS: Mirra Andreeva roared into the Roland Garros semifinals, putting out Sorana Cirstea under the roof at Court Philippe-Chatrier on a rain-hit on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old eighth seed, who had a meltdown in the lasteight 12 months ago, succumbing to the unheralded Lois Boisson before a wildly cheering home crowd, was in charge right from the word go to score a 6-0, 6-3 win.
“I feel like this year here in Paris the crowd was not really against me like that,” she said. “If that would happen again, I feel like it would be a little bit easier for me to handle, I would know how to fix the things.”
Andreeva will go up against her conqueror in the final of the Madrid 1000 Marta Kostyuk for a place in the final.
Kostyuk extended her winning streak to 17 matches after moving past Elina Svitolina 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 to make her maiden Grand Slam semifinal.
Svitolina couldn’t do much when Kostyuk powered through the last three games for the loss of just two points.
Meanwhile, second seeded Alexander Zverev survived an early scare, rallying from 2-5 in the opening set to score a 7-6 (3), 6-1, 6-3 victory over Rafael Jodar and move into the semifinals.
