Kamalpreet Kaur finished sixth in the women's discus throw final with a best throw of 63.70m. After an emotionally charged Sunday, where PV Sindhu won a historic second individual medal (bronze) and the men's hockey team entered the semifinals after a gap of 49 years, Day 11 went a step further as this time the Indian women's hockey team made a historic maiden entry into the Olympic semifinals by stunning world No. 2 Australia 1-0 in the quarterfinal. Discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur finished a creditable sixth in her first Olympics with a best throw of 63.70m in a rain-interrupted final on Monday. The 25-year-old Kaur, who has qualified for the final as second best on Saturday, was never in the running for a medal in the six rounds of competition which was interrupted by rain for more than an hour. She had a third round throw of 63.70m to end at sixth and equal 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Krishna Poonia's performance in the 2012 London Olympics.

Wrestling - Germany's Rotter-Focken wins women's freestyle heavyweight gold
Germany's Aline Rotter-Focken won gold in the women's freestyle wrestling heavyweight category at the Tokyo Olympics on Monday. American Adeline Gray took the silver while Turkey's Yasemin Adar and China's Zhou Qian claimed the bronze medals. (Reuters Photo)

Their remarkable performances in the build-up to the Tokyo Games creating high hopes of multiple medals at the Olympics, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat will have spotlight on them when India's seven wrestlers, beginning with Sonam Malik, open their campaigns from Tuesday. Wrestling is one sport which promised at least three podium finishes and anything less than that will be a below par show, irrespective of the colour of the medal. Apart from Bajrang (FS 65kg) and Vinesh (WW 53kg), Ravi Dahiya (FS 57kg) is expected to deliver at the biggest stage in the next few days. The 19-year-old Sonam will be first to take the mat in the 62kg category, pitted against Mongolia's Asian Championship silver medallist Bolortuya Khurelkhuu.

Weightlifting - China's Li Wenwen wins gold in women's +87kg class
China's Li Wenwen won a gold medal in the women's +87 kg weightlifting category at the Tokyo Olympics on Monday. The 21-year posted a total of 320kg to set an Olympic record. Britain's Emily Campbell claimed silver with 283kg and the United States' Sarah Robles took bronze on 282kg. (AFP Photo)

Denmark's Axelsen wins Olympic badminton gold
Denmark's Viktor Axelsen won Olympic badminton gold on Monday, becoming the first non-Asian man to win the singles title since 1996. World number two Axelsen beat China's defending champion Chen Long 21-15, 21-12, while Indonesia's Anthony Sinisuka Ginting took bronze. (AFP Photo)

Kamalpreet Kaur finished a creditable 6th in discus
It was a very good performance from Kamalpreet Kaur in her debut Olympics, finishing a creditable 6th in women's discus throw. The Tokyo Games is her first major event as she is yet to represent India in the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games. In fact she was one of the only two Asian athletes in the final, the other being China's Chen Yang who finished 10th. (AP Photo)
