The wrestling world recently saw the end of two of the greatest in-ring careers of all time, John Cena and AJ Styles. Interestingly, it happened at the hands of the same man, who has now been dubbed as 'The Career Killer', Gunther. After putting away legends like Cena and Styles out of the WWE, he has now targeted another legendary name to send off into the sunset. In a recent interview with The Morning Shift, Gunther asked the hosts who they would like to see him retire next, and they brought up Brock Lesnar's name. “That’s a good one, right? We’ll see. I think there are a bunch of examples of people who overstay their welcome, who just hang on a little bit too much, who chase one moment too much. It seems like there is a big amount of people to choose from.”

Gunther earned the moniker of the Career Killer after retiring multiple WWE legends

Gunther has been on a warpath to end the careers of WWE legends since mid-2025. He began with defeating WCW Icon Goldberg at July's edition of WWE Saturday Night's Main Event. Following that, The Ring General won 'The Last Time is Now' tournament to earn the right to be John Cena's final opponent at December's WWE Saturday Night Main Event. At the show, he did the unthinkable by making The Never Seen 17 tap out, which was a heartbreaking sight to witness.Following that, AJ Styles stood up to Gunther for continuously gloating about the fact of making John Cena tap out.
A heated feud led to Styles putting his career on the line against him at the 2026 WWE Royal Rumble PLE. At the event, the duo produced an evenly matched showdown that captivated the fans like no other. However, as the dust settled, Gunther made Styles pass out of the sleeper hold, which forced him to retire from in-ring competition. In regard to Brock Lesnar, there have been reports hinting that he would end his career at the 2026 WWE SummerSlam, set to take place in his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Moreover, Gunther vs. Lesnar was once set to take place at WrestleMania before Lesnar was taken off television due to his involvement in the Vince McMahon-Janel Grant lawsuit.
With Gunther's momentum as the 'Career Killer' on the move, his retiring Brock Lesnar would mark another milestone for his thriving career in WWE. So it remains to be seen if WWE will go in that direction moving forward. Also read: WWE Raw updates: All superstars confirmed for the show, Aj Styles final appearance, and more
