On June 30th this past weekend, Cody Rhodes turned 40 and entered a stage where professional wrestlers start contemplating their future beyond the ring. After all, a career spent between the ropes cannot go on forever. And it seems that the former
WWE Undisputed Champion has seemingly found his calling. And to top it off, it involves the bright lights of Hollywood.
As first broken by Nexus Point News, Rhodes is rumored to don the role of Guile in the live-action reboot of the legendary Street Fighter. A fighting game series, it was first released in 1987 and focuses on a global fighting tournament organised by M.Bison, the leader of the evil organisation, Shadaloo.
Cody Rhodes Can Join Roman Reigns as Part of the New Street Fighter Reboot
Last played by the iconic Jean-Claude Van Damme in the 1994 adaptation of the film, Guile is a U.S. Air Force pilot famous for his military prowess and ‘Sonic Boom’, and interestingly dons a blonde hairstyle similar to Dusty Rhodes’s baby boy. Although the character was not featured in 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, he has been a fan favorite since his debut in 1999’s Street Fighter II.
This is not the first time Rhodes has appeared on the big screen.
As an actor, he made his debut in Syfy’s Warehouse 13 and later had a role on CW’s Arrow as Derek Sampson, a drug dealer who terrorized Star City. ‘The American Nightmare’ will next be seen in ‘The Naked Gun’, which debuts on August 1.
Moreover, Rhodes’ former archnemesis, Roman Reigns, is already set to play the role of Akuma, who is also a mainstay in the series. If the rumors are true, then fans can very well see the reunion of two of the biggest stars the WWE has to offer today. Filming is scheduled to start in August 2025 in Australia and is produced by Legendary Pictures in collaboration with the series’ creator, Capcom.
Apart from Rhodes, the reboot will feature prominent stars like Jason Momoa (Blanka), Andrew Koji (Ryu), 50 Cent (Balrog), with David Dastmalchian playing M.Bison. It will be interesting to see if Rhodes can follow in the footsteps of legendary WWE wrestlers becoming Hollywood mainstays like The Rock, John Cena, and Dave Batista.
