WWE run has been solid, his Hollywood debut opens the door for new opportunities for the superstar. In a recent interview during the movie's promotional tour, Batista candidly shared how he brought McIntyre on board.
Drew McIntyre was the first choice for Dave Batista in The Killer’s GameDrew McIntyre is at the peak of his career as a professional wrestler in WWE. Amid his astonishing fame, McIntyre would have a career boost with opportunities to follow the path of his mentor Dave Bautista who helped him land his first movie role. Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, the former WWE superstar shared that McIntyre was his first and only choice after director J. J. Perry’s inquiry.
"I was having a conversation with (director JJ Perry) and he said 'I need a great big guy who's almost intimidating to you, a guy who'd be bigger than you, and I also need him to be able to pull off a Scottish accent. Do you know anybody?' I was like 'man, I've got the perfect guy!'” Bautista said.
He went on to add, "I immediately thought of Drew, I love Drew, I've always gotten along well with Drew. I've known Drew since he was a teenager, I think he was like 18 or 19 when I met him.” Bautista’s comment on McIntyre teased that he has been a fan of his in-ring work as The Scottish Warrior has been in a huge clash with his adversary CM Punk continuing their long feud even after the Bash in Berlin strap match when Punk claimed victory over McIntyre.
"I pointed them in his direction,” Bautista said of casting McIntyre adding, “Sent a bunch of pictures and reference stuff and was like 'it's this guy, don't even look any further.'"
Perry looked no further as McIntyre was a perfect fit for the role as he envisioned. He played Rory Mackenzie, brother of Angus Mackenzie played by British actor Scott Adkins.
