How to file a TDR online to get full refund of train ticket for cancelled or late running trains
If you hold an e-ticket and the scheduled train journey is cancelled for any reason, there is no requirement for you to visit any specific location to cancel your ticket. The refund is automatically processed when the train is cancelled, eliminating the need to file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR). However, if the train is delayed by more than 3 hours and the passenger opts not to travel, filing a TDR is necessary before the train departure.
It is recommended to visit the reservation counter to cancel counter tickets. If the ticket was purchased online through IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation), follow the cancellation procedure outlined below.

How to File a TDR Online to Get Full Refund for Delayed or Cancelled Trains
- Step 1: To initiate the TDR process, users are required to log in to the IRCTC website or mobile app, navigate to "my account," and choose the "my transaction" option.
- Step 2: Select the "File TDR" option. To cancel counter tickets online, please visit the following link: https://www.operations.irctc.co.in/ctcan/SystemTktCanLogin.jsf
- Step 3: Enter your PNR number, train number, and captcha, then check the box indicating agreement with cancellation rules.
- Step 4: Click on the "Submit" button. An OTP will be dispatched to the mobile number specified during the booking process.
- Step 5: Enter the OTP and click on "Submit." The PNR details will be displayed.
- Step 6: After verifying the PNR details, select the option to cancel the ticket. The refund amount will be displayed on the page, and a confirmation message containing PNR and refund information will be sent to the mobile number provided during booking.
