CLAIMA photo of cars submerged in a waterlogged street is being posted by several Marathi Twitter users to attack the
BJP and its leaders in
Maharashtra.
It is being claimed that the photo is from Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) limits which is under the administration of BJP.
A little known Shiv Sena leader tweeted the photo attacking
Devendra Fadnavis, who is an elected BJP MLA from Nagpur South West. He accused BJP of providing ‘messy administration’ in the Nagpur city.
Another leader from Shiv Sena’s youth wing Yuva Sena blamed Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader
Narayan Rane for the flooded streets in Nagpur.
TRUTHThe photo is not a recent one. It was taken in July, 2018 when heavy rain and floods paralyzed Nagpur.
Although it is true that NMC was under BJP administration even back then with Fadvanvis as state’s chief minister.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGYUsing reverse-image search, we traced the
original photo published in a local Nagpur daily called Nagpur Today in a post dated July 6, 2018.
It should be noted that Nagpur witnessed heavy rainfall during that time. Many residents posted pictures of extensive flooding on the social media, criticizing poor infrastructure facilities and lack of preparedness.
VERDICTTimes Fact Check has found that a 2018 photo of a waterlogged road in Nagpur has resurfaced with a false claim that it was clicked recently.
