CBTV published an article with a headline saying, "Man knocked down by vehicle in Toronto identified as former Sri Lankan cricketer
Sanath Jayasuriya," along with Sri Lankan cricketer, and former captain of the team, Sanath Jayasuriya's photo.
As per the report, a man who was knocked down by a car in Canada died yesterday while undergoing treatment in a hospital there. The report claims that the Sri Lankan Embassy in Canada confirmed the identity of the 49-year-old Jayasuriya, confirming they were aware of his visit to Toronto.

VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGYAn unverified Twitter account by the name of Sanath Jayasuriya, that has mentioned "The official account of Sanath Jayasuriya" in its bio, and with a link to what looks like his personal Facebook profile, tweeted saying, "Please disregard fake news by malicious websites regarding my health and well being. I am in Sri Lanka and have not visited Canada recently. Please avoid sharing fake news."
We checked the official, verified Facebook profile of Jayasuriya. The first post made just 13 hours ago is a video of Jayasuriya. The caption of the post reads, "The latest TV discussion with Sanath Jayasuriya and Anusha Samaranayke" along with #admin which denotes that the post was made by an administrator of the page.
The video was telecast live on NewsFirst, a mediahouse in Sri Lanka, 18 hours ago.
Jayasuriya is an acclaimed cricketer. There are no reports from any of the credible media houses about him being in Canada or of him being involved in a car accident.
VERDICTTimes Fact Check has found that Sanath Jayasuriya is alive and well. The news of his death is a hoax.
Update: Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi, India responded to a query by Times Fact Check about the authenticity of the CBTV article saying, "This report not true."
